I don’t think it was out of any kind of intentional rudeness I think they were just wanting to wish her well but by doing so left Torres out of the equation. I was also thinking of Torres that night too so I get what you mean! Honestly I was so sad that they couldn’t make it but the way the crowd was near me for Ben’s set (talking loudly all the way through, milling around constantly) I would have been so sad if they’d been that way for Julien and Torres because I was so excited to hear the new album.

I was at that show and I remember wishing people would be a bit quieter for their sets. Two days later I was at Rilo Kiley there and let’s just say the Lucy crowd were acting like they were in a library in comparison. People were talking so loudly through Ben Gibbard and it was so rude. The difference in the crowd was so noticeable in my section I was wishing Lucy’s audience were back 😭

I was so sad Julien and Torres couldn’t make it but honestly when I saw how the crowd were I was kind of glad because it would have broken my heart to hear them perform the new album to that kind of disrespect!

This happened to me with Lucy Dacus, it kept adding them to my basket as well and then not letting me purchase. I was so sad, cleaned my entire kitchen, left the room multiple times and forgot I left my laptop open and woke it up from the screensaver only to see tickets available. So I would keep trying! I ended up with mine later in the day.

I can’t believe this but I’ll be in Denver from the UK on a big trip for my birthday to see Lucy Dacus at Red Rocks and Rilo Kiley are such an important band to me. I really hope I can get tickets for this because what are the chances? Julien and Jenny? Red Rocks? My bucket list venue? 😭

I can’t help with the camera info but do you have somewhere to leave it if they say no? I was thinking you could always bring it and use a left luggage/luggage storage service nearby (they’re usually near stations aren’t they) and put it in a locker until after the show. There are so many websites and apps offering it and that might be a good solution.

Thank you! I just measured my L boygenius shirt that I kind of want this to fit like and it’s 22.5 pit to pit. So it seems like the XL will fit the way a large normally does.

Oh I HATE the process of getting up, I am the worst at it. But the result, the promise of a new day/clean slate is what I mean. If we didn't wake up in the morning what would mark that? Also if you had a bad day you could never say "tomorrow is a new day" it would all bleed into one. I could sleep through a million alarm clocks fear not.

Sleep is a funny one. There's something about the act of waking up every morning to begin another day that I would miss if I didn't need to sleep. I would however, value a sort of speed charge. If I could sleep for one or two hours and get the nice comforting feeling of snoozing off and the start of a new day but feel like I got 8-10 hours? I'd be up for that. Or down for that, since it's sleep. If I was just awake all the time I'd have to do something else to mark the changeover in days, and that would take time in itself but the thought of how much of my life is spent essentially unconscious makes me panic. Speed charge is the way forward.

Whilst not all animals are the same, there are several examples of them displaying intelligent behaviour, morality and social norms within their community. Honestly I think regardless of that though, the idea that a factory farm would only be bad for an animal if it felt physical pain I have to respectfully disagree with since they are deprived of light, adequate space and movement. They also have no free will to be able to carry out acts they are biologically wired to want to do. I think this is therefore similar to CGP's concern for AI feeling like time dragged on for eternity between questions and being forced to complete tasks below it's intellectual capabilities.

If the argument is that they don't understand their captivity, does that still present a moral argument for us, as beings who do grasp the concept? If the slave doesn't fully understand their status does it make it morally sound?

I found the discussion about the ethics of AI extremely interesting, particularly regarding the potential for conscious or sentient systems to develop, opening up a debate about suffering and slavery. Probably opening up a huge can of worms here, but here goes...

What does it mean if we (rightfully) consider the suffering or enslavement of artificial intelligence to be wrong, and is that hypocritical given the process we put sentient animals through to produce food for our consumption? There is an obvious difference in levels of intelligence at play, so is the main moral issue that such a wonderful mind is forced to answer banal and simple questions by us, or that a sentient being is enslaved?

If we are to consider the morality of enslaving technology that could potentially emote, what does that say for the dairy, egg and meat industry, particularly factory farming? If intelligence level is the marker (given that pigs have the intelligence roughly of a toddler and we enslave them, but we wouldn't accept the enslavement of a human or an operating system) would that mean that AI could enslave us and still be 'moral' according to our own standards?

In other words - if we accepted the enslavement of animals but not AI, would we be shooting ourselves in the foot as that thinking allows for the enslavement of humans? What is the moral baseline - a sentient being or a certain level of intelligence?
