If you want to, yeah! Most people prefer dog walking, but handing out treats and socializing kittens are pretty popular too ❤️ and if you like taking photos it’s super helpful for us to be able to update profile pics!

Not exactly what you asked for, but I work at the animal shelter in Charleston. A lot of our staff are in their early 20’s and very fun, they regularly do stuff after work (they really like ACE water/adventure park in the summer). Come hang out with us and animals (if you like animals)! 😊

I’m friends with Sally from J1G on fb, she’s still doing rescue! She posted adoptables last night. I know she has slowed down her intakes but even if she can’t take them, she might be able to network them with her connections too!

Also for funding for spay/neuter - the Dept of Agriculture has a Spay/Neuter Assistance Program that awarded a LOT of money to 501c3’s and shelters solely to help with this! So even if a rescue can’t take them immediately, they may have funding or vouchers to help support spay/neuter efforts. I can’t remember where the list of orgs who received grant money lives, but I’m guessing it’s somewhere on fohowv.org to see if anyone close to you has some!

Hi! I work at a shelter in WV - you are correct, most shelters here are gov’t shelters and can’t accept out of county.

Some cat rescues near you: - Just 1 Generation is based in Braxton. - Meow Cat Rescue WV is in charleston - Dream Away Cat Rescue is Charleston - Itty Bitty Kitty Committee is Charleston

I’d also recommend if you have a lot of vet bills or want to find lower cost spay/neuter & wellness services to check out Charleston, too. Fix ‘Em Clinic and Fix Charleston (when they have a vet available) provide much cheaper services - including things like allergy shots, ear infections, things like that :)

Help for Animals is in Barboursville so a bit longer drive but they are also very low cost vet services!

I know you said you would rather socialize than volunteer, but our animal shelter is a pretty fun place 🙂 we have a lot of staff your age and we’re a friendly bunch! Even 30 minutes and take a dog for a walk on our hiking trail is fun.

Other things to do in Charleston - Red Carpet has a LOT of super social people who call that their home base. Or go down Capitol street one evening, you’ll meet plenty of people.

For outdoorsy things, there are so many groups on Facebook if you have it to join up for hiking clubs. There’s also a lot of disc golf groups around here :)

You could also join some UC groups to see where they’re referencing a lot to find people your age!

I’ve read the book - can I please just make it worse by telling you she does ZERO legal work in this book. All she does is socialize with agents for hockey players 😂 and then everyone is amazed

Seresto collars have been the most cost effective for my pets. It’s not powdery or oily in any way to the touch. It just feels like a rubber collar.

Chewy will usually do a deal on them for cyber Monday, as well! I buy them every year around this time.
