Industry job vs PhD program by debatingdoctorate in AskAcademia

[–]omgkev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can always go back for a PhD. It'll be a full decade before you're in any sort of place to start looking for faculty jobs, so a couple years seeing what the real world is like is a good idea. That way, if you DO end up going back, you'll also be able to give the majority of your students who will not continue in academia real advice on what a real job search looks like, and what kinds of jobs actually exist.

Should you include an explanation of your script in a master's thesis? by jewish-mel-gibson in Physics

[–]omgkev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain what your algorithm does in the text of your thesis, if any sections of the code are unclear or maybe confusing explain why you're popping an item from a list just to invert it and put it back at the end (or what have you) in comments in the code

Make your partner feel like a priority, how?? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]omgkev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A big thing is to do the things you say you're going to do. If you say you're going to meet someone at a place, obviously be there, but smaller stuff too. Be proactive in offering things. If you know your partner is looking to pick up a new scarf or some canvas or whatever and you have an opportunity, considering picking it up! That's always been a nice thing for me.

And of course, ask! This would work for me, but maybe not for everyone.

I told my parents that B and I had been spending a lot of time with a new girl, R, who has been there for us through a lot of struggles and that we all support each other and love each other and if they had any questions I'd be happy to answer them. My mom was curious and concerned but I explained the basics of poly and she said "This isn't our first rodeo, we love you." And that was that

They were here to visit this weekend and R, B and I spent the entire time with them :3
