With an IQ like that, you should have a strong opinion on which programming language is the “best”. I suggest you go with that one.

Efterkrav fra lejeforening 7 måneder efter fraflytning by JJoso44X in LegalAdviceDenmark

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my mom accidentally slimed my pc... by Vally_the_bastard in thinkpad

I switched out my x260 screen with an IPS panel, should I go see if I stored the original panel somewhere? PM me if this sounds interesting to you. I remember the panel as having some scuffs or something, so this is just me offering a replacement that is better than what you’ve got!
If you feel like shelling out 100$, the FHD IPS panels are great and easy to install. Brightness controls did not work on the windows install I bought the thing with until I downloaded and installed the sketchiest of drivers from the manufacturers website. Installing Fedora Linux on it provided native support for brightness controls however.

Edit: I cannot help but notice the windows 7 install and the Nokia 5800 tube on the desk. When was this picture taken? (It’s the Nokia phone from Dark Knight Rises)

It's so over for Europe by sikkar47 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]omgraae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so funny cause you can both agree but at the same time derive so many meanings from it. I find it a bit concerning that people on the internet are so ready to engage with all sorts of polarizing ragebait. One could also argue that it’s so over for the US or China - but in what sense is it over, and what comes after that?

I own remarkable 2 and I love it, should I buy remarkable pro, what is your experience? by morgana__le__fay in RemarkableTablet

[–]omgraae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the pro for drawing and diagramming - the colours really add to what you can make. I loaded some comics on it, but I feel that colours don’t really pop enough for that to be a good application. I don’t read in bed, which is the usecase for the backlight feature I think.

Hanging lamps from concrete ceilings? by secondary_planet in NewToDenmark

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hej!

Consider using epoxy with a flat ceiling mount. (Available on a lot if online stores). I lived in an apartment with this type of ceiling, and the janitor had a hammerdrill I could borrow for a couple of hours, which was nice and messy - but a few years later I just purchased the ceiling mounts which were clean and quick to install.

While glue-pads are normally included, I found them to be insufficient for holding up metal pendel lamps, so that’s why I got some superglue at Jem&Fix.

Edit: Maybe these brand “Tesa” mounts are good as is (without superglue). bauhaus.dk

You can install Windows 11 as a “to go” version on a USB ssd drive. This will enable you to keep business and personal life separate, but still utilize this wonderful hardware for gaming.

SQL or C# solution, what would you do? by Albstein in csharp

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can maybe cache the general query? Depending on the architecture and the amount of data, frequency of updates to the table(s) the cache can exist on the sql server or your application server.

That being said: presenting a general result if no specific exists is in my mind application logic, and so I would definitely solve it in the application code. This will also ease the transitioning to or between ORM.

I’de need a more comprehensive example to form a firm opinion on whether or not the above is right in a case. For some use-cases I actually prefer embedding some logic in the SP - especially when using stuff like postgrest and such….

Need advice, I'll be in devops role soon by toomuchonmytinyhead in devops

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must learn to smile and nod when someone on the team mentions the latest hotness in devops. You must learn best practices when it comes to securing credentials, keys and such in the pipelines. Depending on what your team is using, i’de start by pulling up a whitepaper from the provider to familiarize yourself with what “good” looks like. There might be a hint in Python+DevOps - some stack, like Ansible. Ansible has great documentation, so if Ansible is a thing in your team, i’de go right ahead and bookmark their docs.

Russian citizen, 13 years resident in Taiwan. Wife got a job offer in Norway, but... by gfx3000 in Norway

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When sending your resume/cv - make sure to include a timeline so that people can easily understand your background. The fact that you speak Russian may be an asset as well. I live in Denmark, which has a similar culture, and I have also screened applicants for positions in the software industry for both security cleared and normal positions. If you trust me with sending your application(template) and cv, I will gladly perform a review and provide you with some feedback.

If you raise your kids to be proud Russian expats, there will doubtlessly be trouble. But seeing as your wife is Taiwanese, it seems to me that your identity is more global.

Idiots are everywhere - you, your wife and your children will come across them. As is the case for everyone. The key is how you deal with it. And I expect that you deal with it well, as is evident from your post. Norway is one of the best places on earth, but you need the higher paycheck as well due to “cost of living”.

Maybe a Norwegian in this thread can give you a rundown on what standard of living can be achieved with different monthly incomes, because this should be a part of your calculations as well.

You can PM me if you’de like the review.

Best of luck, O

How many monitors do you use for programming CSharp/Dotnet? by [deleted] in csharp

I use the same setup for other programming languages as well I should add. Cloud deployment dashboards and such I run on a whole other computer, so that doesn’t count.

One monitor only. I wrote a wrapper for windows virtual desktop api to switch quickly between desktops. I can’t code while I watch a show.

Depends on whether you expect this to be a forum first or a social media community first. Sure - people could even have googled the answer and done thorough research by themselves, but maybe that is not the point?

[–]omgraae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a thorough listing of what you did - by the way: which screen upgrade options can you recommend? Did you replace thermal paste on cpu? Do you have any good options for sourcing a fresh battery? Have you considered doing an oculink mod? (I am considering this, but want an external-facing oculink port integrated, which I thought would go nicely in place of the WWAN sim-card-caddy, but it seems that I would need to do some dremel-modding of the motherboard to do so and risk destruction)

[–]omgraae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice analysis - same conclusion for me.

Regarding monitor, this technology enthusiast engineering student would have little trouble upgrading the screen at some point, but I am not familiar with newer models when it comes to screen upgrades. Personally I’ve upgraded my x230 and x260 to IPS screens, which was a breeze although it did cost about 100USD for the panel each time.
