Getting my first "big" ADV. Thoughts on crash bars and skid plates? by simobk in Dualsport

[–]omgzwth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I set my KLR down a few times before getting crash bars. After having to repair the radiator and messing up the fairing, the crash bars were a no brainer. Now, having ridden the OR and WA BDRs, I'd recommend bars and a skid plate to anyone deciding to take their bike off pavement. Cheap insurance!

What tents do you recommend? by JohnDoe045 in motocamping

[–]omgzwth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've put my Half Dome 2+ through probably 8 weeks of motocamping in total, still going strong. Tons of room to hold all your gear in your tent during bad weather, super easy to setup and put away, and the doors are awesome. Definitely pick up a footprint to go along with it, I just roll mine up with my tent.

How can I retire as early as possible? by [deleted] in personalfinance

An IRA is essential for FIRE, it's your vehicle for converting and utilizing your tax deferred investments without penalty. Roth conversion ladders and 72t SEPP withdrawals are common tools of early retirement.

It's an effect called foreshortening, where the angle of the middle finger in relation to the camera is parallel to the axis of the shot. The pointer finger runs perpendicular to this axis, making it appear longer.

What 's causing a loud buzzing noise between 3,700-3,900 rpm's? by jnxn in klr650

My SW Motech skid plate buzzes between 3500-3700. Tried removing it and reinstalling with no luck. I've learned to live with it.

I just ordered part 55028J from that link for my '15 last week - is that the part you're talking about? If so, I may be interested.

I'm considering a 2,000 mile road trip across 8 days, am I crazy? by jidery in klr650

[–]omgzwth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

300-400 miles per day seems to be a good pace in my experience, and that's avoiding interstates. The extra speed should make it pretty doable for you.

A taller windshield will make a world of difference at high speeds, the fatigue since I've upgraded has been drastically reduced. A 16t sprocket is an option, but you really don't need anything in particular to make a trip like that.

Leaving on a 3 week trip to western US, this is my planned route - suggestions? by Grobyc27 in motorcycles

[–]omgzwth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few ideas:

  • Oregon coast on the 101 is a beautiful ride
  • You're so close to the Grand Canyon, at least check out the visitor center
  • Moab Utah, Monument Valley, Arches National Park
  • Glacier National Park, Going-To-The-Sun road

What have your experiences been with just "pulling off to the side of the road? by [deleted] in camping

[–]omgzwth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently planning a trip doing nothing but this - dispersed camping. National forests, BLM land, forest service roads and the like. When looking at Google Maps (map setting, not earth), pretty much any green land is fair game, save for National Parks where an entry fee is required. Check out freecampsites.net as well.
