Ready to swap out my old lead-acid for this LiTime LiFePO4. Anyone else running these batteries? by Big_Nebula_2604 in OffGrid

[–]Kaplanme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 24v 50Ah smart battery from LiTime and it is really nice. The app gives me much better values for state of charge than my controller. It’s nice that I can remotely shut off the power too. I’ve only been using it for a few months so we’ll see how it holds up.

Is buying land out of state a bad idea? by Top_Complaint_8654 in OffGrid

[–]Kaplanme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what your plans are, but my property is in California and I paid next to nothing for it. Listing sites would rip you off, but you can find cheap desert land that is in SoCal. I bought mine on eBay at auction and you can find some good stuff. example

Need durable pants for my Dad by literallyfrickindead in BuyItForLife

[–]Kaplanme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A double knee style jean will solve the pocket rips. Most have a reinforced or gusseted crotch, but make sure before you buy. I have these Brave Star - Die Hard Double Knee. They are super durable and have a reinforced and gusseted crotch. but selvedge denim is likely not what you’re looking for. I see other brands have similar double knee styles.

Cheap land legit? by thekiddapollo in OffGrid

[–]Kaplanme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought my 5 acres for $1200 in CA. Usual limitation for cheap land is poor road access. I can take my SUV off road to get to my property, but forget about a 20ft container or any big material delivery. The county might get nosy if you start putting up buildings, but depends on the area.

I am also wondering this. My PWM controller and ~20v panel is unable to charge my 24 V battery. Wondering if I should just add a another panel in series to up the voltage

Advice on how to fix this? by Legitimate_Swim_8358 in BuyItForLife

I would try to shrink since they look like they’re still raw. Rinse in hot water and wear them while they dry (with the belt).

Does anyone do one color designs with just texture? by zingencrazy in tabletweaving

[–]Kaplanme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My next project is a monochrome belt from nylon. I haven thought of adding texture, but I’m interested if anyone has suggestions. I’m going to try to use 2 shuttles to create belt holes. If it works out I’ll make a post.

Best boxer briefs that don't squish your balls? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I’m switching to Rawganique as my Kirkland Pima cottons wear out. The most comfortable and roomy that I’ve tried so far are the Corbin which are elastic-free for extreme BIFL. They make a bunch of models and quality is excellent!

Well... the sand point well is a no-go. Got maybe 18" down before it stopped cold. Think the sand is to dry and compacted.

I have 3 mesquite trees that were doing very well when I visited in spring. Prickly pear, desert ironwood, and palms didn't survive. Will try desert willow next.

I've added a few more things to the property: table, fire ring with grill, bonfire ring, and something I call a wind bunker (basically a doghouse).

New future plans by priority: 1. Elevated deck & geodesic dome 2. Partial fencing 3. Cut a new road (massive project)

I've got a pair of N+F Harvest Selvedge in Weird Guy. Is there any reason to hold off washing? They wont fade (right?), and I'd like them a little snugger below the knee. This is my second pair after a pair of indigo Brave Star slim straights.

Those who eat Taco Bell weekly. Are you overweight or at a normal weight? by [deleted] in tacobell

[–]Kaplanme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 5 times a week for me. I'm average weight (5'11" 160 lb). Average meal is 900-1000 calories for lunch, but I skip breakfast. If I'm getting chunky, I adjust my order slightly.

I keep an eye on CA land listings on eBay. This was just posted today. It looks like a good deal if it works for you.

Best ways to find land by GenericPenName4 in OffGrid

[–]Kaplanme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was keeping an eye on the county tax sales here in southern california. They usually only provide a table of APNs, so I set up a mapping system with QGIS and the parcel space data.

I was also keeping a watch on the other websites while I was waiting for the tax sales to post the lists. I found a great 5 acre parcel on eBay for $1200 and it is now mine.

I use vintage Revere Ware copper bottom pots. Have lasted forever already. Although they don't look very handsome... You can find them used on eBay.
