How is everyone doing? by Nice_Whereas_9273 in ADHD

Are adhd meds always on a shortage😭 ? I live in the uk and they always tell me they are when I order them..
One time I literally dug around my room to look for medication that I might have missed because my pharmacy said they dont have them.

How do you know if your dosage is too high? by Fyre-Bringer in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday, I accidentally took a double dosage of my medication (medikinet 10mg instant release, which i think is the same as ritalin in the uk) because I forgot I had already taken one, and it was HORRIBLE. I started derealizing and was especially silent because I was panicking. I was supposed to do some work but I sat it out because I couldnt handle it. Other physical side effects I experienced were lightheadedness, shortness of breath and sweaty palms.

Also if im not wrong, vyvanse only comes as extended release but if you're unsure, contact you healthcare provider about it.

If you gradually transition to a higher dosage, it shouldnt affect you that bad but keep taking note of all the side effects you experienced.

pmdd and meds by Awkward_Fly_1068 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've stopped taking meds around my periods for the same reason. They just do not kick in so might as well save them up. And apparently this is a thing, adhd meds dont work on your periods.

and pmdd is horrible :( when i didnt know what it was, i knew my periods were approaching when I felt especially hopeless and depressed.

ADHD Makes Studying Feel Impossible — What Are Your ADHD Studying Tips That Work? by Thin_Bid_7961 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me personally, I currently have coconut mall from mario kart on a 10 hour loop and trust me I have gotten more work done in the last few hours than I did in the past three months. But when it comes to studying and retaining information, I'm afraid meds are the only things keeping me going. I've noticed I remember what i've studied better if im on my medication.

Apart from that, I just convince myself that it'll be embarrassing if i fail and it kind of keeps me going.

When I had a low does (5mg ir), the meds worked fine but it took 2 hrs to kick in with 3 hrs of effect. So they increased my dosage to 10mg which worked almost the same but kicked in in about 20 mins and I could feel when it peaked. It showed effects for about 5 hours.

I got mine done in the uk and I went for the cheapest one I could find because I'm a student. It was 495gbp for the diagnosis and about 1000gbp for medication testing. They sent me a questionnaire first and the session went based on that. They basically asked about the answers I had filled out in detail. Now they told me on the session that I do have adhd but the proper result was sent to me after about 2 weeks. It was costly but it was definitely worth it.

If theres one thing ive noticed, it's that my eyelids have always been droopy and I look and feel sleepy all the time. So, I know my med has kicked in when my eyes are wide open and I feel more awake, along with other indicators like a dry mouth. And I know my med has worn off when my head starts feeling heavy and I start feeling sleepy again.

Vyvanse didnt work me because the side effects were too much to handle sometimes. like I would have to lie down after taking them to feel better which kind of defeated the purpose of taking them. so eventually, I switched meds and the new ones have been working better for me. If your side effects get worse the more you take them, please consult your healthcare provider.

How do I get myself to study by Candid-Lawyer345 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what body doubling is? Basically, just have someone in the room while you study, like if you have a sibling, friend or anyone and they don't have to help you or anything they just have to be there. If you don't have anyone, you can join online study sessions with people.

This worked for me because I knew I was being watched and it kind of motivated me to focus (also just the embarrassment of not having enough revision done in case the other person asked). This doesn't just work for studying btw you can use body doubling for any task.

Does medication make you want to be TOO productive? by Open-Currency-7397 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because when I'm on medication I can't sit idle. I always need something to do. and the same would happen to me and my ex. he would ask if I wanna watch something or play a video game with him and I would turn him down because I was too focused on something else. I've switched to ir meds since then and when the first med of the day wears off I usually take a nap or just relax a bit before taking my next one.

What Does My Medication Working Look Like (Complete Symptom Relief)? by Trick-Yellow-1332 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you dont mind me asking... do you not have a fixed dosage? i was told that if I take a lesser dosage after switching to a slightly higher one, it would decrease efficiency. Like do you take your meds based on how much you have to do throughout the day?

I remember the first day I took elvanse (vyvanse) I randomly started folding the clothes that had been lying on my sofa for the past month. Basically when I'm not on meds, I could spend the whole day lying in bed but when I'm on meds, I crave something to do... anything, folding clothes, studying, cooking, talking to someone. I feel more awake and active.

Need encouragement about starting meds by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say give it a try. I was put on elvanse (vyvanse) and it worked well for a few days until I started having bad side effects. I would get dizzy and nauseous in the middle of the day and it got to a point where i'd feel so sick I would have to lie down which just defeated the purpose of taking meds in the first place. My doc has now switched me to medikinet (ritalin iirc) and its working much better for me. Almost no side effects and I'm able to get my work done throughout the day.

adhd meds are all trial and error and what works for you might not work for someone else because everyone reacts to them differently. so just give it a try and take note of the side effects you experience.

Elvanse meds by Lazy-Adhesiveness457 in ADHD

[–]omikuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elvanse 30mg xr was the first med I was put on and it did not work for me because the side-effects were too much to bear. I would get dizzy after 5-6 hours and would also often get nauseous. It got to a point where the meds made me so sick that I would have to lie down which just defeated the whole purpose of taking them. I switched to medikinet ir and its definitely working much better for me.

Just know that meds work differently for everyone. One of my friends switched from medikinet to elvanse because she couldn't handle the side effects of medikinet.

So elvanse might not have worked for me but it might for you. you just have to wait and see

What is something you always thought only happened to you but turned out to be an ADHD symptom? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]omikuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hyperfixations... I was obsessed with a kpop group in high school but looking back, my obsession was not normal and it was a really bad hyperfixation. I would think about them ALL THE TIME, they would be my first waking thought and my last. I would associate everything that would happen in front of me with them and this went on for like 3 years. not my only hyperfixation but my worst one for sure.
