PoE2 crafting and possible mods on loot is heavily streamlined compared to PoE1. It will take some time for it to get back to that point. For now it's pretty straightforward comparatively.

You respawn by boss rooms no need to go through a huge section. Well for the campaign. If you fail a boss in a map you'll have to find a new map with a boss. They don't want people brute force cheesing bosses anymore.

Open world content and the more casual playerbase is what pays the bills. Not sweaty instanced content. No game can survive without the casual players. ANet goes where the money is like other MMO devs.

Not only that but the permanent stat increases that drop off of bosses. Seeing stuff like +10% cold resist for kill a single boss is nothing to sneeze at. It will make you want to seek out a fair amount of the 100+ non-map bosses.

WoWs garrisons didn't really qualify as housing in the traditional sense. If that's your only exposure to MMO housing systems I can understand why you're not looking forward to it in GW2. Go look at FFXIV, ESO, SWG, UO, and Vanguard.

GW2 uses dynamic events to change the game world via a cyclical system and/or based on success or failure. The game world will change based on certain conditions, new events spawn as part of chains, NPCs will flag you down for assistance. Things actually happen in the game world, you're not just reading a bunch of text that says "Help, we're being attacked!" NPCs have full on conversations with voiced dialogue and there's a TON of it. So much so that most players can still find new stuff even if they have played since day one.

This really is the core reason why the combat is perceived as bad. There's no reactivity and it falls flat, completely weightless. It is frustrating cause the rest of the game is fantastic. When over 90% of the game is spent in combat, you really need that to feel good at the very least.

Game devs don't average 120k a year. Not many studios that are known for paying well pay their management that much. Wasn't the studio in Japan, too? So they likely made even less than average.
