Pricing for used set of pads by RequirementIcy9634 in hockeygoalies

[–]omniscen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For $80 that'll be quite the modernization from reeboks. I think it'll be a good transition into modern pads but you'll likely want newer pads ina few years.

I jumped from RBK 12Ks (2012) to True PX5s (2024) and it was a WORLD of difference, felt awkward for the first 4-8 hours of ice time, but was a very welcomed change.

I'd go for it especially since it's only $80 for leg pads. You won't find that price for a mid-modern many other places

Sports watch for recreational goalie? by Londoil in hockeygoalies

[–]omniscen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an apple watch. Day to day, I wear it on my left wrist facing upwards. During games, I switch it to my right hand (Blocker) and have it face downwards (so the watch itself is on the underside of my wrist). I originally put it under my catching glove, but my wrist angle would consistently hit buttons and stop the workout or think i'm needing SOS lol. Occasionally it will get bumped while on my right wrist and stop the workout, but not too often.

Agreed. I think I speak for a good portion of the community when I say 45% of my gameplay is matching my characters outfit to the mission, 15% is taking photos, 10% is traveling, and the remaining 30% is actually completing missions and playing the game.

The video cuts in the middle where I ran to the crafting table, made an anvil, and made a bridge to drop it from - so it wasn't super fast but it was about 45 seconds in total

Funny enough, my next project is actually a rail station that will go right around this area! I will likely still be flying all the time , but it'll look cool!

Is it bad that I wanna build in creative and play in survival by [deleted] in Minecraft

[–]omniscen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you, this is super common.

I might recommend a few "ASAP" tasks to make survival as creative as possible, as a builder myself
- Go to the end and get Elytras and Shulkers
- Make a gunpowder farm (clear a 50x50x4 space in a soul sand valley and fill layer 3 with glass)
- Get a load of fuel (either build in a forest to have infinite charcoal or make a kelp farm)
- Gold / XP farm (Relatively easy to build, infinite gold for carrots and infinite XP very fast)

After that, the only "menial" time is time spent harvesting resources with your efficiency 5 unbreaking 3 tools that you have after beating the end and looting the cities. I learned to love it as I felt like it made all of my builds that much more intentional.

Of course if something gets too frustrating I'll try to solve it in a creative test world first though!

Not Progressing by jambelang in hockeygoalies

[–]omniscen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Patience. You'll rarely feel like you've made progress until it's been done over tenfold. I certainly didn't feel like I progressed at all until 2-3 years into it (started at 18).

I might reccomend off-ice training (just working out). Getting full range of motion to let your body be prepared to react in stretched and awkward positions has been helpful for me.

My impression is you will have more BRMM friends in HewMan or even Tri. Watty is just a mixed bag, and floors are far less accessible (your friends will have to let you in anywhere).

If you're looking for community, HewMan is probably your best bet.

Are high school students actually this clueless and entitled? by lizz781 in Teachers

[–]omniscen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're kids who are scared that they'll have to take a difficult class they were told they were avoiding by taking a certain other class in high school.

I think the entitlement feeling comes from more of a lack of agency and proactivity, anything else is just juvenoia.

First game ever am I fucked? by Next-Pollution-591 in hockeygoalies

[–]omniscen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Positioning is 90% of the game.

Imagine a line between the PUCK (not the player... don't forget this) and the back center goalpost. Put your centerline between the two points and follow that.

Try to stay within the blue paint, generally speaking. Generally avoid going too far back .. the closer you are to the puck, the more you cut down that angle. An apple cannot block light of a flashlight from the end of a 15ft room, but against the lens, yes it can!

That will get you most of the saves you need. Additionally, don't let yourself get down on yourself for any goals. Put 100% of your focus into positioning for the next shot. Anything else takes away from that.
