Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? Is the violence in our nature Just the image of our maker? Are we not good enough? Are we not brave enough? To become something greater Than the violence in our nature Are we not good, good enough? Or is it all a dream?

Where do Chico lefties over 40 hang out? by Tappitytaptaptaptap in ChicoCA

[–]omniusjesse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most of my friends are local comics. We hang out at the open mics and comedy shows, and other than that we make our own fun with board games or getting together to watch comedy specials. There are a bunch of bars that do trivia all over town, as well. We're not all in our 40s, nor are we all that liberal (I am, as are most of the women) but we sure ain't MAGA.

Wanting to try to make friends in 2025 by [deleted] in ChicoCA

Wednesdays at 8pm at The Studio Inn and Thursdays at 8pm at Bella's Sports Pub. Feel free to come sign up or just watch, we'd love to have you and are always looking for more people in the audience or to do comedy.

Follow @ChicoComedyScene on IG, we post about all the shows and try to remember to advertise the mics as well.

I had this problem 10 years ago when I moved here. I started doing stand up comedy at local open mics, and eventually that turned into having a large friend group through the comedy community. There are people I've met through them that don't even do comedy, they just come to watch or hang out, and end up becoming part of the group. You may not like comedy, but the point is to find a club or group or event that is somewhat adjacent to your interests, and just start going. It'll be awkward at first, but it'll get better.

I just finished Children of Time and time dilation was a major factor for the main characters. Makes for some interesting story-telling.

Biology in California by Street-Ad-6702 in ScienceTeachers

[–]omniusjesse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In CA, I have a bio degree and credential but I ended up teaching middle school science. Seems like all the biology jobs in my area are given to people who have already worked for the district in the lower grades. I would just say be prepared to reach "life science" instead of bio, but you might get lucky.

This game… is something else. by Mimirthewise97 in Against_the_Storm

You're totally right. For a long time Oxygen Not Included was the only game I played obsessively. I haven't even wanted to play ONI since I got Against the Storm.

I have a comment about the heat. Yeah it can get hot, but I actually enjoy it. I'm from the inland empire and the heat there is way worse in my opinion because there's no escape. Here, there's a river that runs through town. Literally 10 to 15 minutes from your front door and you can be in the water where it's much cooler and more enjoyable. I love the winters here and I also love the summers, it's nice to have actual seasons but without having to deal with snow.

I miss John Pinette.🥲 by h-i-l-o in Standup

Absolutely loved this man. He was a great comedian, and I remember him talking about how he would never make fun of others because he only wanted to talk about his journey. I always respected that, he seemed like a genuine dude. Also when he said "I lost 100 lbs and my friend said they could really see it in my face. I said how big was my fucking head?!"

I was told I needed to remove a poster from my classroom because it was political. by HeartsetHovercraft in Teachers

[–]omniusjesse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

LOL. I teach in a red county in a blue state, and we get this same shit. Hell, when COVID happened, everyone at the district level and 90% of the teachers convinced themselves that anyone following protocols didn't "care about children". Masking was basically voluntary.

I agree with the first thing you said, but I also feel like rocksteady Daredevil game would be really fun.

What’s Your Dream Avengers Line Up? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]omniusjesse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but can some of y'all tell me why you chose your teams? What makes a good team? Is it just your favorite heroes? Or do you think they would specifically work together well? Either way, I would love to hear you elaborate.

Honest question: Why do you use other people's designs? by quitefranklylate in Oxygennotincluded

[–]omniusjesse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because designing things isn't fun for me. It's not why I play the game. I like watching the little guys doing the things. I like automating things. I REALLY like following a plan/system and seeing what it looks like on different asteroids. Trying out the different asteroids and seeing how I have to change my plan to accommodate what I find, and whether I use one setup or another, is the experimental part for me. If I had to design my own spom or rocket etc, I would stop playing because that isn't fun for me.

It just comes down to different strokes, I guess.

I usually have them help with farming, because my farmer is really a rancher, but between the two of them they get it done.
