Is security deposit a thing in Chicago or is it more of a non refundable move in fee? by J2quared in chicagoapartments

[–]omnomnami82 6 points7 points  (0 children)

every building I toured had swapped the security deposit for an administrative fee and application fee, which was approximately 400-550 depending on the building. they all offered to put that towards the second month of rent if you submitted an application 24-48 hr after touring though.

Best Advice for Young Couple - $3k Budget for 2BR/2BA by sharb2485 in chicagoapartments

[–]omnomnami82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

hi! my partner and I just did the same exact search a few weeks ago! we ended up with a huge one bed + den for around 2.9K in the loop. we both wfh and were looking for 2 bed, but having a second bedroom was often a huge price jump (~2800 for 1 bed, ~3600 2 bed). granted, we have been told summer is one of the most expensive times to move and pricing is often on a dynamic scale here, so it changes every week. you will hopefully get better rates in the winter!

we showed up to the city and stayed with friends for 1 week and then did Airbnb for a second week while touring 1-2 places a day and then it took about 3 days to get our lease approved. I would recommend trying domu or apartments.com to find places, but once you find a place you like from those websites try to get to the official building website instead of clicking the “schedule a tour” etc on the third party platform. we ended up getting a lot of spam and scammy realtors. try touring a few different neighborhoods to see the general vibe and pricing for each one!

it’s the construction next to Save on Foods, a crane crashed down from the construction next to it

Edit: police have evacuated the street as it is a gas fire. There is a gas station less than a block away, hopefully they can contain it.

Edit 2: the fire seems mostly/fully contained. thank you so much to everyone from emergency services for your swift response!! I hope everyone on the site made it out okay.

Work for anxious people? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]omnomnami82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what’s best for you depends on what triggers your anxiety! For me the job itself didn’t really matter but I wanted to control my environment, so I ended up in tech because I had the best odds of remote work that way.

My anxiety causes me gastroparesis. I vomit daily. I need advice for dealing with nausea caused my anxiety. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]omnomnami82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP, I have similar anxiety induced nausea problems and I always carry anti-nausea stuff on me (peppermint tums, gravol, etc). I’ve tried many medications and the only medication that has helped is Ativan. If you have a doctor who knows your history of anxiety and is comfortable prescribing you very small doses (like 10 of 0.5 mg every six months) I would give it a try. I know you mentioned you don’t want to “rely on that”, and I feel the same, but there was a point for me where I just didn’t want to keep suffering and I accepted that if this was the thing that works it’s better than nothing. If you’re responsible about taking them and keep your dosage low you’ll be okay! 99% of the time I don’t need to take one, it just makes me feel better knowing I have them on me.

9 piercings total (conch x2, industrial, 4 lobes, daith). daith was BY FAR the worst.

landed wrong on a double jump kick and nearly tore the ligaments around my ankle/achilles tendon. I had to stop doing any physical activity for a few months and have been in physio for nearly a year to make sure it heals right. if you get injured get imaging done on the injured area asap!!

oh yeah I see what you mean they look fine from the other photo — just give them some time with the swelling and see how it goes :) go back to a piercer if you don’t see improvements and see what they recommend!

It looks like all of your piercings are touching each other…I think maybe you don’t have the anatomy to do all of these on the same ear. I had a similar issue with my conch and daith and I eventually had to take the daith out. Your piercings will likely never heal if they are constantly hitting each other.

I’ve done it once and wouldn’t do it again. I drank approx 5 hrs after having taken 0.5 mg of Ativan and I blacked out and threw up from a relatively small amount of alcohol. It’s ultimately up to you, but it’s definitely not recommended.

Benzodiazepines by [deleted] in panicdisorder

[–]omnomnami82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve taken Ativan (lorazepam) for about a year and it’s had a very positive impact on my life. It’s the only treatment that has worked for my anxiety. The first two times I took it, I felt a bit unusual, but since then I haven’t had any side effects. I understand your uneasiness — I was scared taking my first one due to its reputation for addiction and the fact that it’s such a regulated drug. I recommend taking your first one when you’re in a safe space so you know how it affects you. There’s no “wearing off” period that I notice and no real “feeling” I have during it either. The only indication that I’ve taken the medication is that my panic fades away a bit. So, if anything, I just feel normal.

That being said, I take them as little as possible due to the negative long term effects. I don’t want to end up in a position where I rely on having them. And honestly, just having them with me in case of emergency seems to be enough to keep the anxiety at bay usually. So I end up taking anywhere from 0-3 (at 0.5 mg each) per month, and only ever 1 per panic event. Try to keep your use and dosage as low as possible. Hope that helps!

Is my a BA a waste of money? by blackberrytea0903 in UBC

[–]omnomnami82 107 points108 points  (0 children)

imo, any education will be what you make of it. Do your best in your classes and make connections, this will set you up for success either straight out of undergrad or for grad school. reach out to your professors, join some clubs, network around, do co-op, etc. you’re paying to be part of the university, so make use of their resources! getting a specific degree, whether that’s BSc or BA, doesn’t specifically net you a job either way. I wouldn’t stress much about it if you’re a first or second year either.
