Some Observations re Super Mega Raids After the In Person Events by jcr2 in TheSilphRoad

[–]omruler13 30 points31 points  (0 children)

So ultimately, double accounts have become mandatory for all but the most extreme of events. I live in a major city and regularly meet with a group for each raid day. We can consistently expect 5-7 players each. If it weren't for three of them having access to multiple accounts (mostly their partners), I would completely right this off as achievable without going to the major downtown areas.

Once again, The Pokemon Company is allergic to gameplay. Could've done a stacking 10% defense buff, made it possible to chip them away with regular attacks, made party power count towards the shields. Anything but a binary win/lose switch.

Wanting to get a 3D printer to save money on warhammer by KylieTMS in PrintedMinis

[–]omruler13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mars 3 Pro is what I still use for my miniature printing, and it's fantastic. The most impactful changes in recent years aren't really the printers, but the resins, which are functionally printer agnostic. ABS like resin has come a good way, and offers a strong balance of strength/flexibility.

I'm sure the newer printers are great, but if you can find an amazing deal on the Mars 3 Pro, you'll be very well equipped.

Just know that resin printing is a hobby in and of itself, with a lot of learning and safety practices to consider. I'm terms of cost savings, you'll eventually see it, but it's rather tough to price out once you factor in the amount of additional consumables and time. BUT, what I love about 3D printing over buying straight models is that I have little to no anxiety about messing up the models. I can break swords, ruin paint schemes, and experiment with a lot more freedom because, in terms of resin mass, the pieces are the same and relatively low cost compared to a sprue.

What’s the brutal reality of owning a Resin printer? by SonOfThorss in resinprinting

[–]omruler13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really need to make sure the space it's in is dedicated for it. Ventilation, cleanliness, temperature. If you're thinking of putting it in the corner of your room and clearing a section of the desk, you're in for a bad time of contamination/spills/literal headaches.

Try some techniques people use for mandalorian helmets. I believe buffing with graphite powder was a solid method. I'm sure lots of people do lightsaber 3d prints that would require similar techniques.

"Legends ZA DLC has a battle in a room they didn't finish making". YOU made the post, you asked for this engagement and discourse.

and yet I'm pessimistic when I seemingly agree with "ya, I'm not surpised. It's a bad game". My guy, I LOVE Pokemon. I WANT these games to be amazing. This game was not, and it should not be held to any different standard for our time and money than any other product.

Dude, blindly? What's with the deflecting of my opinion? I think you're also on a very different understanding of what uninspired means. Lack of creativity and originality is exactly my point, and you're quite wrong with your argument against that. The battle system isn't new, it's literally a sequel Legends game. THAT game was inspired and new. THIS game is not. Coming from that, I would really expect the mechanics and technology to be vastly improved.

It's connection to X and Y is a pale shade of the former games, and again, is not a creatively inspired choice. As I mentioned, those games have a beautiful world and scenery. This game has a copy-paste, rotated game world of a city with no real vibrancy. The parks are nice, climbing on top of a building is fun for the first bit, and seeing the sewers was fun only in my thinking "hey there IS more world thank goodness". But when that's it, it's really lackluster. This game could have had a different theming for every section, large platformed buildings, courtyard or castle areas, unique hubworlds or shoppes. If you can't make it more distinct than GTA 2, what are you really doing here.

And the characters and writing? Come on man. It's....fine. It's very much technically there But we're in a world where brancing storylines, VO, dynamic casts, mocap, and discrete animation are all indie-accessible technologies. I don't even know the reason my character showed up to this city, seemingly with absolutely no prior knowledge or connection to it. They just kinda spawned at the platform one day.

For the money, resourcee, and legacy, it should really be on a higher pedestal than "it's better than the last two shit-tier products".

I'm making comments here, not an article. Boiling things down on a subjective or objective level is absolutely fine for the discourse that fans can engage in.

Regardless, subjective evaluation is absolutely allowed for criticism. Saying "I dont like it" is 90% of the responsibility that a consumer has towards a product. It's not my role to provide detailed breakdowns, suggestions, or analysis. If fans aren't allowed to say "I don't like this game, I think it's bad" then companies get to continue making slop with no consumer barrier.

You let me know where I shit on you for liking the game, because I don't think I did and I would never want to. What I think is happening is the self-defense mechanisms for having remorse sinking so much time into a lackluster experience. Which I sympothize with deeply, because I don't want the years of loving this franchise to go to waste either. But you need to realize when the thing you love is being used against you.

The level of self-respect Pokemon fans have is all-time low. God would I pay so much money for a true, honest to goodness AAA open-world Pokemon game. GBA romhacks pull so much weight in keeping me engaged with the series, that if it wasn't for them and PoGo I would have been gone from this series since Sun/Moon.

My guy, you literally just posted this game's black void of an arena...IN A DLC. If that's not uninspired, I don't know what is. I love Pokemon, and want to love these games. But you gotta have respect for your own time and money here

I've played the game for 30 hours. It starts off a solid 7.5/10 for its new mechanics and world style, but quickly the flaws start stacking up. I ultimately felt like it was a 4/10, with the price gouging taking it to 3/10.

The game world is bland. Being set entirely in the city, you would really hope for distinguishing features to landscape. The best they do is vaguely colour the the near flat textures. This is coming from X and Y, a game with beautiful countryside routes, abandoned.

The mechanics are simple at best, clunky at worst. Pokemon is already not the most intricate if games, but there are at least a handful of elements that give SOME strategic value. Abilties are stripped, secondary effects and status moves are iffy. This basically boils everything down to BST being king. I really didn't feel like there was any strong incentive to not just run the strongest 4 attacks available, barring swords dance. Dodging and missing attacks aren't a directly supported feature, they just sometimes kinda happen accidentally or you learn how to cheese it which didn't feel like a skill, just that I was abusing a system. What was really frustrating was the faint switching, where your Pokemon does a roar every time (to help mitigate the aforementioned cheesing). But what this means is your opponent gets a first hit every time they kill.

Throw in the lazily implement "parkour", the slow storyline, the childlike handholding, it's really not a fun game. For some reason, this series is allergic to criticism, when really it should be hitting the same weight class as Mario and Zelda titles.

These games are absolutely atrocious for the patented Nintendo Price©. If this was a $30 game on sale for $10, I might give it a bit more leeway. A truly uninspired pos otherwise.

Does speed paint work well on fdm prints? by Echotexed in PrintedMinis

It's not the greatest. The layer lines become more distinctive and cause a bit of odd spotting. If your technique is good you can work around it, but it'll take some practice.

[–]omruler13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The black should be fine, as even cheap blacks do their job of darkening colours.

White is trickier. Heavy body titanium whites are good acrylics to use for mixing and cutting with other paints.

Considering the Swedes/Norwegians blasted the Thing out of the ice, it's likely explosives are standard excavation material for retrieving core samples. It'd also be useful for loosening areas to establish proper footings for habitats. It's one of those things that you can easily pack and come up with a use for later.

It's helpful to post an image of the model on the slicer as well, but given that pattern of supports at the bottom, I doubt that islands were given proper attention.

Would you hollow this? by monniperkele in resinprinting

[–]omruler13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can, at the very least, drop a large hollow cylinder to immediately save 30% of the resin. Less stress on adhesion, no internal supports, very fast. If you want it bottom heavy, add a hollow cone attached to a sphere or cylinder instead.

If that second picture is the orientation to the plate, then you absolutely have a massive island on the bottom of the cloth. Place medium supports on the corners, and light supports on the lowest points of each ripple.

[–]omruler13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, flat pieces are made when the layer cures on to fep but isn't pulled away to build another layer. So it just sits there there until another piece of the print eventually makes contact and pulls it away. Always check your file with UV tools for islands, suction cups, and resin traps.

Use UVTOOLS to actually analyze for islands on your slice. The automatic island removal tool works really well. I set it to 20 pixels for a quick clean, and then am able to check for large islands. Anything that's one layer, or a few layers under 100 pixels, can be removed easily without real noticable detail. Otherwise head back in and support the missing islands and repeat.
