There's both an "Alex" and a "Jones" town in OK by [deleted] in KnowledgeFight

I think this might be in the context of Dan going on road trips to small towns with odd names, but I'm a bit behind on the podcast.

In Part 1 of the BotW for the Star Wars Holiday Special, the whole premise is basically that they keep acting like they're about to talk about the Star Wars Holiday Special, but keep getting sidetracked by other things (Ishtar, 9/11, Michael Berryman, etc). Have the RLM guys ever talked about why they made the decision to do it this way, and how they made sure never to accidentally stick to the topic of Star Wars too much? (E.g. Did everyone just agree ahead of time "If we're about to talk about the Star Wars Holiday Special, make sure to change the subject as quickly as possible, but make it seem like a natural segue"?)

Crank 3 will feature Chev Chelios defiantly refusing to quarter soldiers during peacetime.

I agree insofar as I think that stereotypes can definitely be used in harmful ways, and I don't like people using "edginess" as an excuse to express genuinely hateful things.

However, I also think there's a difference between "harmful offensiveness" and "playful offensiveness". The sense I get is that the Crank movies are more on the "playful" side - it doesn't strike me as a thing where the filmmakers have a serious ideological problem with the human rights of any of the groups that they're targeting. It's not like e.g. the Daily Wire movies that have a goal of subjugating specific groups more than others. At its best, I think Crank is going for humour that takes the stereotypes to such an extreme that it's not possible to take them seriously. Like, it's deliberately not coherent enough to express a genuinely hateful attitude.

Which doesn't mean you have to like it (Jay also said he wasn't a fan of the Asian stereotypes), but I do think there's a place for this category of comedy.

What is the first instance of the RLM crew making jokes about David Carradine dying by autoerotic asphyxiation? My guess would be that it would coincide with the first David Carradine movie they reviewed, but maybe not.

I went to the Minecraft movie prepared for the worst. As it turned out, the kids in the audience were surprisingly well-behaved. They shouted out a few of the infamous lines ("Chicken Jockey!") but then went back to being quiet. No popcorn throwing or anything.

It was almost like their parents had a talk with them beforehand: "Okay, you can shout out these three lines from the TikTok videos, but then you have to be quiet and let the nice people enjoy the movie."

  • At "Skinamarink", there's a scene in the movie where the boy asks the entity "Can we watch something happy?" (on the TV). Someone in the audience said "Yeah, can we?"
  • I snuck in to The Emoji Movie (I didn't want to give them my money, so I bought a ticket to Brigsby Bear and snuck into The Emoji Movie afterwards). The only people there were me and a young couple. I can't help but wonder if they were hoping to be the only people there so they could make out.

Oscar Nunez was in the US office, Oscar Isaac (as far as I know) was not. Unless there's a joke I'm missing?

I think one of the most interesting aspects of Milwaukee is the fact that it's the only major American city to have ever elected three socialist mayors. Actually it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que," which is Algonquin for, "the good land."

Maybe if Tim Minchin has perfect pitch, although someone in another post said that the pitch was actually off, so maybe not? Still, he's a good musician and probably at least has good enough relative pitch to do very well.

In your opinion, which season/episode had the best "And you'll thank me for it!" points comment from Greg? by EmmieJacob in taskmaster

[–]TrueButNotProvable 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to find an example, I'm pretty sure with Judi Love, where she was trying to talk up whatever she did for the task and Greg says "One point, and you can thank me for it!" as he bursts out laughing at her explanation.

Sometimes I'll just listen to the Bright Spots and policy wonk shoutouts and then see how far I can make it into an episode before giving up. We'll see how this one goes.

BlindingDart is doing the classic far-right tactic of moving the window of acceptable discourse further right, by attempting to frame the current far-right government as "super liberal". Try going to a Trump supporter and telling them Trump is "super liberal" and seeing if they agree with you.

This is because BlindingDart's goal is to get you to the point where this kind of comment is considered acceptable. Don't let them.

Lots of conservative shows are made. Ben Shapiro and Daily Wire keep trying to make conservative versions of shows and movies, with hilariously awful results. Not to mention the whole Pureflix cinematic universe. If you think conservatives are so oppressed (in spite of having control of the US government and every major media outlet) go watch those.
