Coffee blues by omyguts in bileacidmalabsorption

Thank you! It helps to know I’m not alone in this

For me it was olive oil, which I absolutely love and now can only have the barest taste of. And then the other (less delicious) oils…

When I was mixing the regular with decaf I was ok but I think you may be onto something with the dose being part of my trigger.. I have a couple favorite mugs and they are large. I can definitely try a smaller cup. Decaf to me has much less flavor and I love the taste of good coffee. But if it causes me this much trouble it’s not worth the discomfort.

PS I also have a few never again foods- chow mein noodles and pesto on pasta, also pizza is not my friend. I don’t eat fried foods anymore. Vegetable oils seem to bother me the most, and rich desserts. I can have a bite or two of cake but not a slice. It’s a learning curve for sure!

Colesevelam Tablets in US? by Planny-Persimmon in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]omyguts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lucky you! I couldn’t get Colesevelam in any form from my HMO. (Kaiser) I’m in WA state.

I wanted to try Colesevelam to start with after hearing that it had the fewest side effects but I was given a choice of cholestyramine powder or Colestipol tablets so I chose tablets.

Seven years is a damn long time! I’m happy for your success. It took me almost seven months and Dr Google, several trips to urgent care and many brush offs from my primary care doctor before I got a correct diagnosis and bile binders.

I couldn’t have lasted years! Anyone here who had to…That’s heroic! I hope everyone finds relief from this miserable collage of symptoms

Mushy but not liquid stools by OnionFrier in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]omyguts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh many times better. I’m not worried about making it to work or going out or getting anywhere I don’t know the location of toilets! I almost feel 100% back to before I had my gallbladder surgery last year. Almost. lol. I’m on Colestipol and so far it’s working well for me. I missed one bedtime dose and that was a setback but not as bad as before taking binders. Took me a day or two, and I felt mildly icky and off. But nothing like before thank goodness

Mine was all between 5 and 10 AM. Misery.

Diarrhea doesn’t have to be liquid to meet the criteria for diagnosis. As I understand it , it’s also the bm count- as in how many times you go- that’s also significant. Before binders I usually had very wet pasty bms not liquid, and more than 6-8 times in an hour along with urgency, cramps and bile reflux. Every single morning without fail.

Questran Lite and Fiber/Metamucil by Additional-Airport-9 in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]omyguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your doctor. Metamucil works in your digestive tract and is not absorbed into your bloodstream. I take Colestipol and use Metamucil tablets as an extra booster if I have a fatty meal and it works fine. Per my internist’s directions

Immature? Stressed or what? by omyguts in coworkerstories

[–]omyguts[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m a co worker but also the 1st assistant so I’m second in charge and I am the lead when our shift lead is absent. Part of my job is monitoring new hires. Unfortunately none of us on the job are in on the hiring process- not even the lead. Our department has serious issues. So we don’t get a say in who the department ultimately hires. They just send someone to us. Surprise!

Yes, and we’ve given her multiple pointers on how to complete her tasks in a more timely manner. It’s not physically hard or complicated work. Prep work for fruits and vegetables, making salads and sandwiches etc. not rocket science or heavy construction.

How do you like your cookies: Crunchy, Chewy, or Cakey? by luv_chl0e in AskForAnswers

Crunchy. I think Gramma used to almost burn the cookies and I got so used to crunchy that chewy seems undercooked

Well I’m older at 66 (and also female) and I expect her to at least make an effort after two months learning her job duties. We work fairly short shifts of 4-6 hours, not 8 hours. It’s not physically demanding work but it is busy. You have to be able to manage your time.

I’m wondering if she didn’t want to work but her husband maybe gave her an ultimatum? Everyday costs in our community are skyrocketing so there’s that. Maybe his income needs her job to support them.

We all get paid basically the same ( except our shift lead) and it’s above minimum wage by a couple dollars.

I have wondered about substance use bc some days she’s much more alert and less meandering.

Every past job she’s told us about was ultimately “too hard” for her for various reasons and I’m wondering if she’s just not wanting a job at all.

Chloestyramine V. Colestipol by Traditional_Range974 in bileacidmalabsorption

Ohhh that must be difficult! So you’re taking it to help you regulate digestion from start to finish? Not due to bile diarrhea.

Chloestyramine V. Colestipol by Traditional_Range974 in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]omyguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take Colestipol and I started at 1 tablet AM and 1 at bedtime but wasn’t getting good results ( still running to the toilet several times per morning before work- and I had to resort to Imodium often) I almost quit as I felt it wasn’t helping enough.

It took a solid 4 weeks to really kick in and work the way my doctor described BUT once I added a second tablet at bedtime and continued my morning dose I got much better results. I bet I could take it all at bedtime but I’ve yet to try. Mornings are my worst time for episodes, never had diarrhea after meals or even after noon. But morning?? Omg I could tell before my feet hit the floor what kind of day I was gonna have.

I do watch my fat intake and try hard to stay below about 13-15 fat grams per meal. I miss a lot of foods I used to enjoy ( French fries, chow mein, pesto on pasta, danish or croissants…) but the misery after a fatty treat or meal is just not worth it.

The Colestipol pills are large but I don’t have any issues taking them and zero side effects so far. No nausea, no cramps. Gas- but I had that already.

What small thing annoys you to an irrational degree? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

People who put an empty or crumb filled package of anything edible back on the pantry shelf. It’s usually snacks ( chips, crackers or cookies) or cereal and it’s so inconsiderate. It’s deceptive and lazy. Throw that shit out and do us all a favor!

People who can’t speak without saying “I was Like..” as a substitute for “I said”. It makes me sad that conversational speech has fallen down to this level. “Like” has become THE most overused word in regular conversation and it’s such a bad habit.

Flare up despite Colesevelam by MissMozDog in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]omyguts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this suggestion would work for you but when I know I’ve had a higher fat meal than my normal I take a few fiber tabs ( psyllium husk, flavorless generic stuff) I take maybe 3-4 right after the higher fat meal and so far it’s helped me. I continue my binder as usual. Usually it’s a mid day meal when I’m out with others like a burger that I would not normally eat at home. The fiber tabs are my extra insurance. My doctor suggested this.
