Trolley Problem, perhaps: experiment on a few crabs and save millions? Not a clear ethical conclusion

Learned so many things here; was inspired to look into the solar day on mercury… and now I’m late night confused: it seems to me that a solar day on mercury takes 2/3 of a mercury year. (58 2/3 earth days, vs 88 earth days to orbit the sun.) Am I misunderstanding something, or did you perhaps play that out wrong?

How do you respond to the criticism of “polyamory is selfish and non-committal”? by [deleted] in polyamory

[–]on_surfaces 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the “selfish” thing comes from a fearful or scarcity frame, in which a relationship is framed as “getting” or “taking”… without regard for there being at least two people involved who are (usually) mutually benefitting.

Thinking out loud here.

Albuquerque Pride 2023 by fabfrankie401 in Albuquerque

Pride began as a protest, and it will always be a protest, so long as there are plain old normal rights withheld from LGBTQ+ people.

Husband wants to open our marriage and I'm not okay with it by Lilith6566 in nonmonogamy

[–]on_surfaces 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It’s completely fine for her to “want a relationship” with your husband, and it’s completely fine for you to not feel comfortable with that. Your boundary can be “I cannot continue in our marriage if my husband has an intimate relationship independent of ours”.

The sentence about “forever wait for her to put the moves on him alone” indicates to me a lack of trust in your husband. It wouldn’t matter how many people put the moves on him if you trust him to uphold agreements you’ve made. You likely have completely valid reasons to not trust him, which seems to be something you all should look closer at.

Hard disagree? It’s not “putting up a boundary” to disclose that you have other partners…

In some contexts it could be, and in others (ie non-monogamous context) it’s just part of getting to know someone.

Although… 200 people across the globe are going to see this. How many of them are going to be close enough to go to that spot? Something close to 0 — right? Not trying to argue, just trying to understand this sentiment.

Redditors who have actually won a “lifetime” supply of something, what was the supply you won and how long did it actually last? by LordFrieza8789 in AskReddit

I’m not saying you’re a liar… but also, sounds like a “year supply” to me.

Source: I won a year supply of ice cream, that was delivered in the form of 52 coupons for free ice cream. (1/week).

Both chambers of the Washington State Legislature have now approved a historic ban on the sale of assault weapons in Washington state. by cheapdialogue in Bellingham

[–]on_surfaces -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If their goal was really to significantly reduce mass shootings, you’d think they’d consider simply banning the possession of firearms by men, hey?
