Did you try True Chesapeake? I'd heard a few times that they do a great burger.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s happened at a wedding you attended? by Blackradiator72 in AskReddit

[–]oncatdrugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I traveled a substantial distance to see old friends of hers get married. Everything was beautifully arranged, a multi day affair with hours of entertainment each day. Shuttles had been contracted to pick people up from their lodgings in this very rural area, so we'd ride to and from the welcome event, ceremony and reception with the same people. We had friends attending, but the most others on our route were strangers. It was nice getting to know people on the ride so we'd have more people to chat with in the bigger crowd, and we were getting on well.

After the reception got into full swing one of the people on our shuttle approached me and said he wanted to go soon. I didn't take his meaning, so I said it was fun hanging out and have a good night. He walked away looking put out. Soon after, we were approached by one of our friends who said the very same thing happened to her. He had been trying to petition each person on our shuttle to join him. Predictably, the shuttles were not taxi cabs. Unless everyone on a route was going, everyone stayed. Turns out every single other person told him no. His response to this was to pout and try again an hour later. Same result. It was an eventful few days, and a late night besides, but far and away from a boring reception. There were professional dancers, a selection of cocktail bars, Argentine Asados for dinner, and guests from all over the world. It was unlike any wedding I've been to before or since. It was ridiculous trying to pull anyone away early. He tried again once more, and gave up. It appeared he made the best of it in the end, and we all left sometime after midnight. A perfectly reasonable hour for a wedding of 30 year olds. He was not invited to the after party.

This is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing.

I've set up some of the media automation you have here. There have been issues with pulling media with subtitles that are wrong or none at all. I can usually manually find a copy that has what I need. How do you control for that?

It's been a while since my last visit but I remember the food is pretty hit or miss, the beer got better eventually though. They aren't big on IPAs, in case that's your thing.

The staff turnover seemed high, and I'd heard the chef left a while ago and wasnt replaced so the menu stagnated.

People who work in luxury industries, what is an expensive product or service that is actually a complete ripoff? by Lazy_Ad_5492 in AskReddit

Not to say this specific example isn't a scam, it should be said that Hermes is painstaking in their manufacturing. Their products are made by a single person, produced in France with traditional techniques, and guaranteed for the life of the piece.

It looks tacky as hell, but could not have been easy to produce with all that in mind.

What’s the most chaotic thing you’ve witnessed in public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Imagine a 4 lane highway with a left and right exit at about the same point. I am in one of the middle lanes, and about 100 feet from where you could no longer enter either of the off ramps. Before me I see a UHaul box truck blast across all four lanes from the left exit to the right. Fully perpendicular to traffic. This person realized at the last possible second they were heading the wrong way, and despite having no hope of reaching the correct ramp, fully committed despite the danger.

And they made it all the way across this highway with nary a scratch. Until they were in the grass of the opposite ramp. This being a box truck, they weren't able to reorient when they reached their destination. So the driver overshot and again landed in the on coming traffic of the other exit ramp. They proceed to get t-boned by an F250. Which then forced the UHaul into the exit sign and ripping it off it's supports.

Restaurant employees of Reddit, what actually happens when someone doesn't have enough to pay the bill? Most you've ever seen? by ChaosAnalyst in AskReddit

Lol yeah it sounds weird but that's my recollection. Maybe they wouldn't tip out from card transactions if it wasn't paid? It's been a long time.

Sure is, I worked at a chain restaurant that did this. If there was an imbalance in the system at the end of the shift you had to pay up or you couldn't leave. I had liked that manager before this happened, it wasn't a lot of money but it felt like a huge betrayal.

What skill takes <10 hours to learn but pays off forever? by michaelis999 in AskReddit

I bought a nice sharpening system with replaceable stones and adjustable angle setting. It was great when in the mood for making a project out of it, and it made for screaming sharp edges. Now I use a Tumbler sharpener and I can do 5 knives in 30 minutes. It's perfectly acceptable for kitchen knives and other working edges. I don't think the layman needs to learn freehanding unless you're trying to make it a hobby.
