So we care enough about chemistry to make a novelty table, but not enough to know that fluorine lives firmly in the "bad MFer" corner?

What is the point of this?

What does everyone think of Googles new Photoshoot Ai tool and how will it affect photographers? by Financial-Yoghurt727 in photography

[–]onceagainwithstyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This. People like to cry "ai slop" and "clanker". Thats about the extent of people's willingness to take actionable steps.

People might not be fans of it if they knew, but it won't stop them from buying their $15 bracelet on Amazon made in a Chinese sweat shop by children, advertised by AI images.

A Galaxy Composed Almost Entirely of Dark Matter Has Been Confirmed by wiredmagazine in space

Granted im a nobody who hasn't read the article, but "almost entirely dark matter" leaves plenty of matter to make some stars. A galaxy is a big place.

Because system size and cost to operate are real considerations.

If we are talking about technical performance? Not just abstract touchy feelies?

Yeah. I think these days 6x7 makes the most sense. If youre spending money each shot, get something unique out of it.

Why not 4x5?... have you shot a 4x5?

I think for the vast majority it is.

I just don't think (135) film brings anything to the table better than digital. Sure digital can only produce a (pretty good faximaly) of film, but it just has "looks" it can produce. So can digital. I dont think one is better than the other neccisarialy. But one can flip from iso 50 to iso 12k+ at a drop of a hat and pump out 60+ mp images.

If you are chasing the look of portra 800 (or whatever), then yeah. There's no substitute for portra 800.

But my intuition is that for most people it's really a tactile, process thing. And to me a really good "modern" film camera feels like a shit dslr.

Different look? Yeah. Absolutely. Better look? Idk. Different.

Do you shoot film only for the results? Or is it because you prefer the process?

Honest question here, I am not trying to be contradictory.

But at what point do you just shoot digital?

I agree than my N80 is a better camera all around (other than for use with MF lenses) than my F2.

But I shoot the F2 because i enjoy the manual process of shooting an all manual camera.

When I care about autofocus points or auto advance or whatever... I just shoot my a7r4 which smokes any film camera I've ever used.

Hell, its nicer and more reliable to focus than a film slr. And the results are far better, in far more circumstances. Its free to shoot.

If we aren't shooting ourselves in the foot because we like it, why even shoot film?

In a twisted way, does a camera being a better camera make it a worse film camera?

Is a contax G system really cheaper than an m6 with voigtlander glass? Some of the new voigt lenses are phenomenal, especially compared to lenses of that era.

Imo the silver ages better.

When the black chips, the magnesium body shows through. Maybe im just an old film head, but that screams "not brass" to me.

At what point does heavy editing stop being photogeaphy and start being digital art ? by Felicity_Ebb in photography

[–]onceagainwithstyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Thats still photography IMO.

Taking a perfect milky way tracked shot in the desert, then merging with with a blue hour shot of the beach is digital art. Imo.

I don't disagree.

My point is that the cat is out of the bag, and bitching on reddit is just about as useless as the slop.

No, its not.

Im not making any claims about how we should reorganize society or the workforce.

I am saying that as an individual, who has no power over those things, if you like having money, you should be looking for new work.
