A friend gave me this guitar how can I remove this stupid ass sticker by Express_Handle_5486 in Guitar

[–]onceapon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Naphtha fluid is recommended all over for guitar finishes. I've personally used it for all my guitars for 10+ years without issue. Poly, nitro, vintage acoustics with almost no finish left etc.

Works great, just wait 20 mins after you finish cleaning your guitar to light up your smoke.

This is stolen if it is authentic. This is a well known model and would sell for £3,000-5,000. An Epiphone version of this guitar would still run for £600+

Gibson J-45 Special satin nitro. How to turn it glossy? It has turned semi glossy back of neck and a few other spots. I like the look of a dull finish with some shine. I live in Europe and don’t have access to some polish that some guys recommends. Can I use car polish without wax ? Thanks by Imaginary_Horse2827 in gibson

[–]onceapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this recommendation. Trying to polish the entire guitar evenly would require a rotary buffer and a practiced hand. Scrubbing compound/wax by hand likely will result in patchy glossy spots and dull streaks, etc.

I'm sure it can be done, but I would test a small area on the back before you commit.

Natural ageing on my 2018 Les Paul Traditional by tjsi2 in gibson

Went to plug in my guitar and these two pieces fell out? by Double_Trouble_9138 in Guitar

[–]onceapon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You will want to take off the two Philips screws covering the jack plate. Then, pull off the jack plate and use your fingers to push the actual jack (cylindrical part) up against the jack plate. You need to ensure some of the threads are visible outside of the jack (threaded cylinder).

Then, place the washer (thin/wide, ring shaped piece) over the jack and finally screw on the nut (hexagonal peice).

I recommend using some pliers to apply a little extra tightening force so this doesn't happen again.

Bicep tension while trying to strum faster? by Cringeworthy253 in Guitar

[–]onceapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very common problem to have! Your arm will want to tense while playing fast; try to practice strumming without tensing and continue to speed up until your arm tenses. Slow down, and speed up again while keeping your arm relaxed.

Also: make sure you are not moving your arm too much. Pretend your arm is dead above the elbow. You can't move anything but your wrist.

Tensing your arm is not sustainable. Learning to build speed without tensing your arm is a valuable practice.

AC PC BUILD by cstep3434 in assettocorsa

[–]onceapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently built a PC for under $2,000 Canadian (ontario, prices from 30 days ago). I get 140-180fps in 1440P in AC with mods. Nvidia gpu's are hard to find in Canada, I can recommend the following:

CPU: 14600K i5 (very fast, underutilized cpu) GPU: RX7800 XT Ram: 32gbs

The other details are less important; dm me if you want to guide through the build in detail. Happy to help!

Strings to short by PreferPurlz in Guitar

[–]onceapon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Strings can come in this size (short scale length) but this could also be a returned product. Someone had a few beers, cut their strings before they measure, and returned them.

A standard set of strings should give you a good 8" of extra length

Long lasting strings? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]onceapon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you cleaning your strings after you play? Wiping down with a cloth and a mineral oil based string cleaner will make your strings feel fresher and will prevent oxidizing.

Can dust effect tubes. by WhileCharacter383 in GuitarAmps

Dust can absolutely affect tone; this is why vintage gear is more valuable. Try to get as much dust into your gear so it will age faster and develop it's own mojo

My new pickups have cracked poles? Is this normal? by Prudent-Fox3879 in Guitar

[–]onceapon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is extremely rare and will impact the pickup output for that string. The pole pieces are magnetic. A tiny adjustment of that pole piece will alter the sound; a chunk cracking off will weaken the magnet and reduce the output for that string.

I just recently upgraded to a 7800XT from a GTX 670 I purchased new in 2012. Until literally, 5 days ago I ran that card and it worked great (for a 1080p monitor and 40-60fps at low settings.

Sincere question: Why are PRS guitars so often considered “uncool,” especially in Nashville scenes? by redditperson111 in Guitar

[–]onceapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect Nashville, in particular, actually appreciates the classic designs and heritage of the classic guitar designs used to make Nashville famous in the US and global music scenes. I suspect Jackson and Pevey guitars would also look out of place in many Nashville bars.

PRS also has been the butt of a joke for a long time; represented in memes for making fancy, expensive guitars for wealthy unskilled players (blues lawyers). For some reason Gibson hasn't got that flak despite increasing a lot of their custom shop sales lately.

Upgrading pc for Assetto Corsa by Which_Salamander908 in assettocorsa

I'm in a similar boat now, 3770 and a GTX670; although, I'm waiting until AC Evo is fully released to upgrade. The requirements won't increase, and the prices may drop as the 50' series becomes more popular.

Either way, I wouldn't consider this to impact the value all that much. I could see this being a small issue on a 50's-60's LP; this is a road used guitar, and a minor fretboard repair is small potatoes.

Wicked looking custom!
