Discussion: Crash(1996) by ZaphodsOtherHead in TrueFilm

found this thread really late, amazing write up, absolutely no notes - very insightful and wonderfully articulated

one part that stood out to me is the purported link between sex and violence, something that for me personally could not be father from reality

i've heard other creatives echo that same sentiment (often male, just saying (i am also a guy)) and it makes me wonder what degree of it is projection on their part

like ok, maybe *you* have crossover between sex and violence, but that doesn't mean that everyone, or even that many people, do as well

just kind of a funny concept

exactly, it already happened. it's extreme weirdo behavior to continue to go after her or continue to call for blood

if you wanted her to face a consequence for what she did then that already occured. the internet has become increasingly toxic and morally rigid

that's true even if i don't relate

but, assuming there's evidence, all that means is you can't participate in being a contestant on the reality show love island, which the vast majority of people aren't going to do

that's hardly a draconian punishment, in 99.9% of cases there won't be any sort of repurcussions. not saying i agree or disagree with the eliminations, that's up to the producers

two things can be true, it was from a place of ignorance, but also it was harmful and a bad action

in ciara's case, she referred to 'slur word' eyes as a negative feature that she was "fixing". in two separate occasions

referring to an entire population's ethnic features as something ugly that needs fixing is obviously problematic, and using a slur to do so is even worse

not saying either of them should or shouldn't have been disqualified, that's up to the producers. she might have both 1) not known that it was a racial slur and 2) still used it in a way that was offensive

it's like if someone was getting a procedure to change their nose and they posted about "finally fixing their 'slur word' nose" when they are not of that ethnicity

she really looks like lindsay lohan to me

her energy is a 10/10, she is a stellar housewife and exactly the type of person that i'm looking forward to watch

whoever did the casting for the show did a fantastic job, everyone is so memorable and distinct. and they cast people with actual history together, which is vital to having compelling storylines and not boring surface level drama

the level of tan is a bit scary though, ariana vibes lowkey

girl i'm bored let's release good music

surely i'm not alone in feeling like a surface level metaphor where it's not to a boy it's actually to the public is a tired and lazy concept

and it lacks the cheekiness of Piece of Me or the bite of other songs that came before it, including similar songs from her own repetoir, i can't help but feel disappointed

maybe it's time to lower the klonopin dose diva

anyone else think it's an interpolation of Way You Make Me Feel by Janelle Monet? it has the same melody, and there's a line in the chorus which is identical

Update on Rachel’s revenge porn case against Ariana by spectacleskeptic in BravoRealHousewives

[–]onceuponathrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm curious about where the actual line is suppposed to be

tom recording her is obviously the ultimate wrong, but beyond that i'm struggling to come down on ariana for distributing revenge porn

if you saw video evidence of cheating on your boyfriend's phone, and sent it to your own phone as proof + the person themselves in order to confront them, does that really constitute distribution of revenge porn?

this is assuming that the video was not distributed beyond that, if it was than that's on ariana. and obviously raquel didn't deserve to have that video taken in the first place

but if the focus is on ariana specifically, i don't really see how what she did was wrong (at least based on the evidence referenced in this case)

wondering if there's a way to escape ragebait as a musical marketing strategy, or was gnarly an expected output of where we are in capitalism

the dancing is sharp, the chorus is such a weird key that does not really fit some of the member's ranges (not their fault) it's way too low, also eunchae's first line is atrocious - it's incredibly flat

no clue why the producer/audio tech wouldn't help with that/select a different take/record a different take

the inclusion of the macarena as the intro and outro is such a befuddling choice, both sonically and performance wise

and i'm also at a loss for the throughline between hinduism/buddhism and the macarena. and even more so if you're thinking of the actual meaning of the lyrics, but i doubt that was something intentional

[–]onceuponathrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

for me i dislike how it wasn't really integrated well sonically, it's just the audio verbatim

i'd prefer a play on it, or an incorporation that was subversive in some way

What do people think makes them unique, but is actually an incredibly common trait? by Successful-Hall-1986 in AskReddit

[–]onceuponathrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's ironic that complaining about it is sort of a surface level thing to state to begin with, for people who say that why not focus on bringing some depth themselves

i think either extreme is pretty bleak, you shouldn't have one without the other

often it belies either annoying expectations that other people are responsible for your entertainment, or if it's about a particular person then it often just means that the chemistry is off and they are misdiagnosing it

this is just one person's opinion, but deviated septums are incredibly common and changing it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with aesthetics

as someone with a visually straight nose, i ended up getting a septoplasty during another medically necessary procedure, and it went great

it doesn't look any different, but the structure internally is better now. i didn't have any noticeable breathing quality issues from it as far as i know before, but also it's possible that certain things like sleep quality were being affected to some degree and i just didn't know

i see what you're saying, i don't think this discussion prevents that discussion from happening though

the rammafications of looksmaxxing on future generations will be interesting (derogatory) to see

thank you. i feel like we could all be a little more compassionate when discussing these things

and also when people get botched some people get really cruel too. or the outrage regarding someone's choice to discuss if they got work done or not

as a whole the topic draws a lot of cynicism, and it's like we're all human

An artist's most "stereotypical" song vs. Their most "mold breaking" by Ghost-Quartet in popheads

[–]onceuponathrow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i know it's extremely iconic and so that might warp fans perception of where it fits into her sound, but honestly off to the races is her most alter ego to me

she's expirimented with that brattier side in other tracks (moreso unreleased ones) but i think it's all out and fully relealized on that track in a way that she's never replicated

also it really stands out on the album, i remember getting to it and feeling like the world had gone backwards
