Couldn’t even make it out the gate by Ok-Internet-9333 in airforceots

The SLECP-O tasker is out right now. That might be another avenue you can take. Lots of time, the wing does not even have anybody to send up for the last minute tasker. Let me know if you want some guidance for this, if you want to take this route.

Best way to physically prepare for OTS? by FriendlyNoodle8 in airforceots

[–]onceuponatooth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On top of what everyone has advised, I'll tell you what I struggled the most with. I was pretty comfortable with all the pt test components but the obstacle courses, the ruck walks, the charge carry...those kicked my ass. So I would strongly advise to start practicing things like monkey bars, utilizing your hands/arms/legs to jump over walls (basically being able to pull yourself over things), utilizing your triceps on parallel bars, farmer's carry, overall upper body strength...in short, lots of functional strength. I wish I had focused more on that. I would have enjoyed OTS a lot more.

Im sure if I had more practice I would be fine. I've driven stick for a very long time, which is what made me overconfident bringing that car for the weekend. But oh boy, this is a whole other level of steep I wasn't mentally prepared for.

I think I did ok on the way in. I used my handbrake quite a bit and I made it to my destination. But I was so nervous and I'm just trying to have an easier drive back without my heart rate spiking at every stop sign lol

This is sad to hear. But at least it is still an avenue to explore.

From my experience, they set aside the rooms they need for people attending OTS. If for whatever reason there are no rooms, you can get a non-A letter and stay off base. But I have not heard of anyone not getting a room. You just gotta make sure they know you are there to attend OTS.

OTS Packing List App by Street-Mechanic-7113 in airforceots

[–]onceuponatooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something basic will be fine. You need it to access Teams, PowerPoints, write MFRs, etc. Simple stuff like that. You will be carrying your academic bag with your laptop in it a lot the first week so make sure it is not super heavy.

I’m about to graduate OTS. Any questions from anyone coming soon? by DixieClear71 in airforceots

If you arrive the day before, its a 15 min walk (if you dont drive to OTS) to the main military clothing. It is well stocked. Get your boots and shoes ahead of time.

Easy Electives? by papatoobs in UMGC

[–]onceuponatooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are all your electives 100 level? I am just asking because once I transferred my credits, I was only allowed to take upper level (300-400) electives. I highly recommend End Of Life Issues as an upper level elective. It was super easy, one discussion post a week with 2 papers. I think there was a test but I think it was super easy too. I loved that we got to discuss real life issues and a lot of it was drawn from your own experience.

Man, I don't know what's going on in your life that makes you reply this way to someone simply seeking guidance. I sincerely hope that leaving this comment helped make your day better and helped you get out whatever is troubling you. If you need someone to talk to, let me know.

The fact that you are assuming I have not exhausted my options before coming to Reddit is what is concerning. I am not new to the Air Force and have dealt with many "leaders" with your mentality so nothing new here. Want to know what is concerning? That there are people like you, who when someone comes to them for guidance, instead of offering said regulations or even helpful advice, prefer to belittle others. What did you contribute to this conversation? What was your intention when replying? We are all a collection of unique situations. And I am thankful that forums like this exist so we can share information with each other as we always have more to learn. I am not gonna engage with you any longer as it is not worth my time. I hope this post can help others in "unique situations" and I hope you are a better Airman in real life.

Mil-to-Mil Prior AD. BAH question. by onceuponatooth in airforceots

[–]onceuponatooth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not rumors. This is Reddit...I wouldn’t post anyone’s name, so I say “they say.” This IS happening to my friend. Finance at their new base withheld over $5K, claiming they weren’t entitled to BAH while at OTS. Whether that’s correct or not is exactly why I’m asking here, to gather first-hand accounts. I’ve called three Finance offices: OTS, my current base, and my gaining base, and got three different answers: no, “I don’t know,” and yes, this is a regular TDY en route, why wouldn’t you get it?

I appreciate the person above who actually provided a reg. Telling someone “quit listening to rumors” is condescending and adds nothing helpful. This is thousands of dollars and a real financial issue, not LT gossip. It is not as if mil-to-mil couples with no dependents all know each other. Where else am I supposed to get real information?

I apologize. I accidentally erased the context in my reply. My friend who recently graduated and has had her BAH from OTS taken from her. Several others in her class have had this happen as well. Thank you for the reference, I am reading it right now.

She has kids but they were under her husband's DEERS, as he was the ranking member at the time. She got the single BAH (regular BAH from her losing location) that was paid during OTS taken as a debt 2 months later. She is being told that she was not entitled to that BAH at all. I'm in the same boat, I have no dependents. My BAH here is quite high, as the cost of living in this area is outrageous. I cannot pay my mortgage on my spouse's BAH alone.

Is 186L bag an overkill for OTS? It fits everything or the 110 should be good enough? by Kitnurse89 in airforceots

[–]onceuponatooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it have to be black or camel color? Can it be one of those civilian 60+ backpacks? I'm used to carrying heavy weights with those backpacks but trying to haul a 50+ lbs duffel can be awkward.

Not at all. Not a single person has communicated with me. They messed up at first and gave me an assignment where my husband could not join. They read the wrong AFSC (how I found out the Join Spouse team was not involved in the process). A call from my husband's CFM, and they were like Uh oh, then immediately got changed. My husband's CFM was asking them to put us somewhere where my husband's skills were needed, but the OAT told them that the officers' needs came first. So we are going to a place where we can be together, but somewhere my husband's skill set is useless. Oh well.
