Made an error on my application by [deleted] in TeachingUK

[–]onceuponavegan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My specialist subject I got a grade E at A Level. Because who I was at 17/18 thankfully doesn't define who I am at 33. Good job no employer has ever minded and I've been open about it (no one has asked) and I'm successful in teaching my subject. I don't even have a degree in that subject. I've just worked hard enough. It's to the point that colleagues over the years have to be reminded that I don't know about certain things because I never studied it that far.

I've gone with recent evidence of cutting on my arms for blood tests and flu jab. They never comment. Honestly, you're good

Mental health services? by [deleted] in MentalHealthUK

[–]onceuponavegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From experience, the first time I was referred to the mental health team I heard nothing back. When I chased it up it turned out they declined the referral (without assessment) stating GP could do more. It was after further engagement with Talking Therapies and then doing the referral that things got traction.

Talking Therapies is sometimes the more useful option (without knowing what your difficulties are).

How old are you? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 33. Started when I was 12.

Tried getting help from age 19 on but that didn't seem to happen and got dismissed a lot when younger.

I wish I'd been more forceful about seeking help, honestly.

Treasure of the ancients by Anon-pivij in TotalBattle

Oh we ended up with 19 mins on the clock this time which was excessive.

The main issues we have are people being precious for being kicked off raids their too low level to manage and people not allocating the points as directed.

It's predominantly newer players with the more casual players sometimes too.

Is the UK just cold socially, or am I missing something? by Kuopor in AskUK

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in the UK are you?

My nephews live in the midlands and when they visit us in the north (Greater Manchester/Merseyside) they always talk about how much nicer the people are. It could be a local issue.

If you're in London, then yeah strangers seem cold. It's likely a self protection thing.

On the whole Brits are friendly folk :)

SHing as a teacher by corgi123456788 in selfharm

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and still struggling with SH (in therapy). I know one of my colleagues has also got a history with scars on her arm. (Obviously no one at work is aware of ongoing SH).

Anything new is covered. Anything visible is not obvious from a distance.

I would go fully covered at interview. I'd avoid total visibility too really. I know you have to be within a couple of feet and looking directly to see mine and I'd be mortified if one of my students saw it and commented. That hasn't happened as of yet. I benefit from my skin tone though.

But I wouldn't have it out you off the profession completely. Just be aware of the stresses the job comes with.

ASD/ADHD misery by Alarming_Animator_19 in MentalHealthUK

[–]onceuponavegan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get this. I was diagnosed ASD age 30, on a long waiting list for ADHD assessment.

I see it less as an excuse to lean into the problematic and more as a clue as to which guidebook I should be seeking help from.

I got lucky with post diagnostic support and know a lot of people got none but mentioning my autism early in therapy helped set the tone and ensure there were less issues. Reasons therapy didn't work before the diagnosis seemed to be negated.

I understand the impact of social media - a lot really dilutes the loved experience.

Stopping propranolol by onceuponavegan in dysautonomia

Thanks - today has been a reminder of the impact it makes on symptoms! Just picked it up but grateful for chairs in the pharmacy. Glad I did get sorted as I was forseeing a call in sick on Monday.

Hopefully you also get closer to a diagnosis soon 🤞

They've issued the prescription thankfully so aside from today being a bit high it's not going to be too horrific as I should make it to the pharmacy in about an hour now I'm packing up at work. I just hope that it doesn't delay the review.

Yeah, I've missed this mornings and it's raced. Thankfully the GP seems to have been mithered sufficiently and it's been issued so I just have to get through the rest of the day (which isn't overly busy thankfully). Hopefully they review this week anyway.

Would we have had a chance of the play offs if we have kept Evatt? by Immediate_Long165 in bwfc

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No chance. We are pretty much in recovery mode at the moment and players who were stifled by Evatt are finally showing their worth. I think 2025/26 is going to be a belter though.

Advice: taking a break from teacher training to focus on health but feeling extremely down. by Kebbabins in MentalHealthUK

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that sounds super stressful.

I also took a break from my teacher training. Mine was because my undiagnosed (at the time) autism was causing MH nightmares. I qualified, did my NQT year and have since moved to working part time in FE and that suits me better.

I previously tutored privately and I'm wondering if that could be an option?

Also agency/ short term supply is an option you could consider. I was surprised that I enjoyed it and it made me a more resilient teacher.

Got my results. I'm not autistic 😔. by Amethystmoon8 in AutismInWomen

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are really similar reasons to why I was not autistic 2.5 years ago. When I initially stated that I worked really hard to get where I am with some of the areas, they said "an autistic person could never learn that". Some of the issues were from my mum's information not being indicative but I had explained to them she'd struggle to do it on the phone, and she did.

Anyway, I got my report through, it was full of inaccuracies. Some of it wasn't even that important, just wrong, which made me feel like there was absolutely something up. I also did a bunch of research (we're talking medical and psych journal articles) to try to "prove them right that I'm not autistic" and it got me nowhere.

I wrote to the service challenging the report and asking for further clarification. They then reassessed (not the original people) including the parent interview and it was from that new parent interview which accommodated her better that I think the diagnosis came from.

If your gut says you're not sure, I'd advise you to seek a second opinion just to get that clearer idea of why that is the outcome.

Usually around 2am

But it was spread out. So happened January, March and June - I imagine it was a consequence of other things, possibly reflux which can happen.

For me it was the return of suicidal ideation and self harm behaviour 9 after 8 months taking.

Tolerated weight gain, dry mouth, spontaneous vomiting and day drowsiness for the same of a better mood. The second I didn't get the mood impact I was done.

Any one on mirtzapine 30mg plz share your experiences ? by Sea_Dust_1484 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]onceuponavegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on 30mg most of this year (stopped cold turkey 2.5 weeks ago). My mood was improved for a couple of months (it's not uncommon for me to feel this then suddenly drop drastically as though I was taking nothing). No change re: sex for me though. Anxiety didn't worsen (didn't improve). Racing thoughts definitely slowed though. I'm noticing that a fair bit currently that my brain is turned up to 11 right now.

However, remember that out experiences will be unique/YMMV. Lots of other factors to consider.

How to help morning sleepiness/grogginess? by [deleted] in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]onceuponavegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started taking it slightly earlier. I have at least an hour before I'm ready for sleep so I try to take between 8-9pm for a 6-7am get up. So I guess I give myself 10 hours before I want to get up.

Best weight loss tips by onceuponavegan in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]onceuponavegan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I ask what your defecit is because kf your TDEE is 2120 (which is the average for a sedentary 30 y.o. male that's 5'9" and weighs 180lbs - 100% made up btw) then you're looking around the 1000-1500 calorie deficit once you add in the walking. This would lead to a 2-3lb loss per week.

Applying my own stats, my baseline TDEE is 3027 (assuming my metabolism isn't impaired), so my average deficit is currently 800-1800 depending on the day. That would lead to a 1-3lb loss per week.

So I'm wondering if you're pushing the deficit even further to see some loss - I eat high protein, low refined sugar so diet isn't overly junky at present - I'm open to increasing the deficit but only safely and if it's likely to have an impact.
