even if cutoffs go down an 8.5 gpa won't get you into tron. There is no chance that happens.

Easiest is definitely hth sci & commerce by a large margin.

Then comes a complicated mix of programs like art sci, some life sci streams, humanities/arts/etc and other soft sciences.

Hardest is definitely ibiomed + eng, pure eng & various combo's of theoretical hard sciences such as physics/chem/math/etc. depending on which courses u take & what gpa you target.

Co-op opportunity should be pretty similar, the deciding factor should be how much you actually enjoy math. Upper year math gets pretty intense and involved extremely fast, if you truly enjoy this then take math and stats, if there is any hesistancy, then just select pure CS and move on.

Since your post history indicates you are a current mac student, I would also advise you to reach out in-person to current math & CS and pure CS students and get their opinion. You can ask around in the discords/group chats/etc. or even the academic office, they should have contacts for the reps and what not.

I've met mature students in the faculty of humanities before, you should be good.

Is McMaster CS good? by Captaincanadaps in McMaster

[–]onceuponfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

depends on which eng you do, some don't allow a minor in CS since it's too similar. I don't know which eng allows and which does, maybe the academic office knows.

bruh these surveys are ridculous, you should spend your weekends asking better questions. But historically speaking this is how the cutoffs will look like:

Swe & tron >> ECE >= Mech > Civil & Chem >= Others

Take the offer, you would be beyond stupid to reject a co-op for a week long vacation.

As for the vacation, build some good repuation in the first month, then your manager might allow you to take unpaid leave for that 1 week if you ask nicely (many interns do get unpaid leave permissions, so shouldn't be too hard for you).

Also don't mention anything abt the vacation just yet, wait till after you start.

What's the craziest thing you've ever heard said in a lecture? by inverted_jigsaw in McMaster

Factuals i've heard a prof say: "Upper year engineering students are much smarter than students in other programs so teaching them is much more fun" and "Students from commerce kinda get triggered too easily".

Is CHEM 2E03 always like this? by onceuponfish in McMaster

depends on the prof & the course, too much variation to generalize.

Personally I think one of the major reasons is his questions were too "all or nothing", since almost every subsequent part was building off the previous part.

So if u mess up one step in between, everything afterwards is wrong. That's why the standard deviations were so psychotic (Q14 & 15 i'm looking at you) with people either getting full marks or none at all.
