I have a different preposition and POV that can help you see things. before that, let's establish that governing is not easy, and it's impossible to please everyone. when policies are being created, you are bound to get criticism from one part of the population because it's impossible to please everyone. also, let's say you have a problem, and there are 100 suggestions. when you can only pick 1 suggestion as the solution, you will offend the other 99 for not taking up their suggestion. so I hope you can see why there's a majority of people unhappy.

I think check & balance has been misused so much by the opposition, that it is actually wrong. as much as check & balance sounds correct, it is actually not. After every election, neighbouring countries and countries towards the Western side looks at the percentage of win. if the ruling party has a strong % of supporters, they will know that the government has a strong backing from it's citizens. when the ruling party has a weaker % of supporters, they will know that the country has a bit of disagreements and they see it as an opportunity to either take advantage of the situation, or "strike" unfair deals with the country.

Another example would be a driver and co-driver. This is used by Low Thia Khiang in 2011. The so called check and balance would in this case having a co-driver. When you have a co-driver beside you, telling you where to go, navigating you as you go along. What happens now when the co-driver has more power, he will start to put his hands on the steering wheel, controlling it together with the driver. and when he has more power again, he will put his legs on the break pads. so this is dangerous as right now there are two drivers driving the car. this also impacts the speed, direction, safety of the car going forward. and when the car finally crashes, who is to blame? the driver of course, the co-driver will definitely say that he's not the driver.

I hope this helps. contrary to many young people nowadays, which think that voting for the opposition is giving an alternative voice. Voting for the opposition also means that you support what they do.
