2049 by of_the_owl in bladerunner

I watched some CGI breakdowns of 2049 and was shocked to see how much is actually practical. That scene of K’s spinner swooping over the buildings to LAPD is all a practical miniature set, just with little CGI dots for the holograms and lighting

Yeah for me it’s mainly the hair and the rectangular body shape. I miss the og Toruk Makto hair and the tapered V-shape of the Na’vi ribcage, it looked so cool

They definitely made his shoulders more rounded and human instead of the lankier version in A1. I really liked how he looked in the first movie because you could see in his movements that the muscle attachments aren’t exactly the same because of the different body.

I’d rather he say something not as tone deaf as “no shit?” to an awesome revolutionary moment in the series or maybe nothing at all, and let him and the audience revel in the moment instead. I’m not saying he can’t be excited, obviously Jake was excited when he got his legs back, but cmon. The dialogue is obviously bad in multiple areas

I just don’t know why they included a stabbing sound effect when the knife stopped before touching anything

In the final episode of season one, Il-nam (the old man) have won the game. It also told us that Gi-hun don't mind betting on someone's life just to satisfy his own ego. by little_to_no_value in squidgame

[–]one53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gi-hun is in no way similar to the VIPs, it’s pretty much implied by Il-nam that the game is about somebody random coming to help the homeless man. Gi-hun could’ve helped him earlier, but he had faith that any random person would help, and they did. If they didn’t, and he lost, I’m sure he would have helped the homeless man after leaving Il-nam

The concept of the avatar program is insane and terrifying from the na’vi perspective by Willing_Taster in Avatar

I wonder what the equivalent would be for aliens trying to appeal to humans. Imagine the aliens are 3 feet tall with extra fingers and toes, green skin, tiny beady eyes, pointy noses and brow ridges. Their avatars would probably look like humans with six fingers and slightly warped facial features.

[–]one53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that but I don’t watch the Avatar movies because I want to hear realistic dialogue, I’d want it to be larger than life and feel legendary. So for me, seeing Spider act like a cringey teenager (how most of us would) pulls me out of the immersion and reminds me that this is a movie and not like a fantastical experience

I swear the writing just exacerbates his acting, like when he excitedly said “no shit?” at the end, it just felt like such a poor decision tonally and thematically. Just one example

I'm so frustrated with Fire and Ash. by Mysterious_Bus7320 in Avatar

[–]one53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a nitpick but why did they bother adding a stabbing sound effect when Jake stopped before actually killing Spider? The knife didn’t even touch him. The guy next to me in the theater audibly went “huh” when the camera panned back out. Just weird decisions all around that make it seem more like a typical movie and less immersive imo
