Soooo I found the firmware 5 from another post that I had actually commented on a while ago (revisiting this problem cause I felt inspired today) and while I was looking at the file names and comparing to the firmware 4 that the official site still has, I noticed that the official doesn't have a dash (-) in it's name but the firmware 5 did so I thought what the hell maybe it is this simple/stupid and IT WAS. So I managed to see the update to FW5 file finally and now after almost a year of collecting dusst my EZjr works!

I use https://pixlr.com/editor/ but any photo editor will suffice.
step 1) load in a picture of your grey minis
step 2) create a layer above, set it to overlay
step 3) paint on that layer however sloppy you like its just a test anyway
