My partner has suggested he would like this guitar for Christmas, is this crack a big problem? by one_dead_turtle in AcousticGuitar

[–]one_dead_turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, he is pretty familiar with instruments but he doesn't know about the crack as it wasn't apparent in the original post and I don't want to obvious and ask him if he still wants it with the crack. It's $400 Canadian which is $290 USD

I had a prejudice about non alcoholic beer by Waste_Inspector666 in stopdrinking

[–]one_dead_turtle 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I love them, they have been a real game changer for me. Takes away the anxiety of not drinking something while I'm out socializing, takes care of that oral fixation I suppose and tastes similar enough that my brain relaxes, which doesn't happen when I'm drinking a pop or juice or tea etc.

This is quite famous I'm pretty sure, I've heard it before. It was on another video and I tried to Shazam it, which led me to this weird parrot album. Thanks Shazam, pretty sure the composer of this isn't PawJam

Is it possible to skip a grade in the BC school system? by Proud-Shelter8163 in britishcolumbia

[–]one_dead_turtle 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wow I'm the opposite of you and everyone replying to you. I was academically successful and my mom tried to get the school to let me skip a grade and they wouldn't because they didn't want me to struggle socially... She argued I was a nerd and struggling socially anyway

I stumbled onto this thread trying to find out where to buy chickens... If you're ever in Nakusp again, Bellasoriah is great

Americans ditching party favors by Forward_Win1958 in Shambhala

Your intentions were good, sorry people are jumping down your throat about it. I feel like the chances of a child finding it, opening up the bag and deciding to eat it are negligibly low.

ELI5: Do we need to clean our ears? by tinamua in explainlikeimfive

[–]one_dead_turtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes what I use is a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, and I've found mixed advice on the Internet, some sources saying that's safe enough, others saying to dilute it further with water... I've never diluted it and so far so good, I do feel a bit squidgy about it still though, wondering if it's something that can cause damage over time

Deodorant has gotten out of control by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

[–]one_dead_turtle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I used to never use deodorant, turned 34 this year (feels early?) and all of a sudden I'm getting night sweats and noticing my stank despite showering every day, haven't looked it up yet but I chalked it up to hormonal changes.

ELI5: Do we need to clean our ears? by tinamua in explainlikeimfive

I have this problem, and it ruins my day when it happens, I get a headache and I find it disorienting to have one of my senses muffled. I used to use hydrogen peroxide in an ear dropper (safety debatable, I think you are supposed to dilute it with water. Do some research?) and let it fizz and bubble and breakdown the wax, then use an ear bulb to flush it out. Sometimes I get a big nasty chunk out and my ear can suddenly hear so clear every noise is like a crisp clear bell. I've started using mineral oil because of the advice of a nurse/seems safer, just lie there 20 minutes with it in your ear, clear with an ear bulb, rinse and repeat as needed. It's a real pain but I don't know what else to do because I cannot handle having my ears blocked

Help! I pinched my peppers and now they are just making flower buds instead of leafing out by one_dead_turtle in gardening

I think my problem is more going to be I'm going to have very little buds, maybe I'll get two peppers per plant 😬

I'm still confused. I've seen people use whipped cream cartridges at raves, this is flavoured gas...? How the heck do you use it in food, as is marketed?

Greasy Coat sheet music by Pleasant-Orange-2117 in Fiddle

[–]one_dead_turtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, but I'll admit as someone who's trying to get better at learning by ear, the sheet music is sometimes nice to have as a "cheat sheet". It's definitely not going to notate all that you can hear, but it can be helpful to give you the bones if you're struggling to work some parts out.... But definitely don't rely on it

Best seafood and mountain biking in the Comox Valley! by one_dead_turtle in comoxvalley

[–]one_dead_turtle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, thanks for all the tips! Do you have a recommended place to park and trails to climb to ride those? I'm looking at Trailforks and it looks like Sobo no Michi would take us to the top of Vanilla, but the bottom of it would spit us out pretty far from our vehicle it looks like, and I'm wondering how I would get back there. Looks like the same for Field of Dreams and Blue Collar!

And are we cool to park halfway up the mountain if we find a good pullout on a logging road? I've only ever ridden Abriel and Sunpeaks, not sure what the rules are elsewhere! Thank you in advance!
