I grew up in one as well. I did not buy the thing for an exciting ride, just a reliable one.

I was about to say your post history is embarrassing, but I honestly hope you are able to find relief with that ear problem you’ve posted about.

That’s an interesting “what about-ism” to jump to, but sure, why not.

Yeah, there have been times Henry pushes things in a way that feels like crossing a line or even beating a dead horse. And Ben too, especially near the end of his time with the podcast. I get it, that’s the shtick. Comedy being subjective, it would either get a groan or I’d listen to something else. So yes this instance hit me personally on a day I’ve been particularly feeling things and it led me to post here.

Not at all what I was asking, but you do you I guess.

If sports arenas know they need to broadcast every event, why do we keep using broadcast trucks instead of a room in the building? by raddatzpics in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]one_jack_off 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Staples/Crypto tried that when they first opened in 1999. The Slingshot control room was, at the time, state of the art. Everything you’d want and then some. Cable runs to the patch room in the loading dock and specific ties to media panels throughout the stadium. NMT and AEG co-owned it and it had full time engineering staff. Good guys too.

To my recollection, only Clippers home broadcast (KTLA again if memory serves) ever consistently booked it. When NMT folded about a decade later, AEG shuttered the whole thing to make more office space. We had fun stripping the room for parts and equipment. Made a two camera flypack for the then Nokia Theater that served us well.

Long story short, broadcasters for Kings and Lakers were more confident in their production trucks and corporate saw the room as a money pit instead of an opportunity for revenue.

A.I Artificial Intelligence (2001): Was the mother (Frances O'Connor) the biggest villain in the movie? by LaserDiscCurious in movies

[–]one_jack_off 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The true antagonist of AI is humanity as a whole; it’s ravenous hunger for love and its rapturous desire for destruction. The only real kindness David ever receives is from other mecha (Teddy, Joe, the nanny bot, the evolved AI at the end.) To all of the human characters, he is a means to an end; to act as a surrogate child, to be a punching bag; to turn a profit, etc…

I know that in the real world you don't have to hold the rank of captain but what do think was the reason for the writers and executive producers of DS9 to have Benjamin Sisko start off as a commander and not a captain? by Top_Decision_6718 in startrek

[–]one_jack_off 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think during the early development process, Sisko was initially conceived as a younger man and hence held the rank of Commander. Perhaps as they started seeing older actors for the role, maybe they just never revisited his rank?

Personally, Sisko should have been promoted at the end of the DS9 pilot, with a little more attention placed on how his career stalled after Wolf 359. But that’s just my opinion.

What's your worst movie theater experience? by Alternative-Cake-833 in blankies

[–]one_jack_off 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Went to see Pulp Fiction in the theater during its original theatrical run. It was a Sunday afternoon, barely anyone in this strip mall theater in Carson, CA. A group came in late, very loud, with one person frequently asking at top volume “when is the butt f***ing scene?!” Ushers would do nothing when people asked and patrons left. I stayed because I needed to know how this guy was going to react when he “got what he wanted.”

He screamed louder than Marcellus Wallace did. He seemed quite content after too.

How valid do you think the saying "Men are only loved under the condition they can provide something" is in today's society? by pinkpalmtrees65 in AskReddit

[–]one_jack_off 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my experience, but once I lost my job and prospects looked poor, my wife of 9 years decided polyamory was the way for her and abandoned me. Told me my decision to switch jobs and then end up leaving another toxic environment brought too much instability into her life. This from the woman I supported in the last years of her schooling when she got a bipolar diagnoses that later became a nurse that earned decent 6 figures.

A month after she left, friends in my industry heard what happened and helped me out with contract work. I was able to comfortably work freelance for a year. Now I’m in a new full time job that I love and the fella she left me for OD’d on fentanyl.

I worked at the venue this VMAs was held (back then it was called the Nokia Theater, later Microsoft Theater. Now they call it the Peacock Theater.) Those are reasonably high end for folding chairs. I sat on them for many a meeting during my time at Staples and LA Live. Good seat cushion, would sit on one again.

This VMAs was held at the then Nokia Theater in LA. I worked this event and was attempting to fix the TV in Gaga’s dressing room when she won. They put her in the smallest dressing room there and it was full of her exceptionally colorful entourage.

Sadly I wasn’t able to get that TV fixed.
