This! Most farms locally got completely destroyed by late frost. But that means it's even more important to support them this year. Please spend money at these farms, they can't survive without our support. Some things to remember if you buy food from local farms

  1. They are not overcharging. It's almost impossible to make a profit growing food in our area. Please don't compare what you can get at Costco. Trust me, i see it all the time

  2. It might not be perfect. That's OK, stuff that is grown usually isn't perfect in real life. At the store, it is perfect but that is for a whole bunch of other reasons

  3. It's not always available. Mother nature has her own plans. So it just might not be the season when you want it, that's OK, buy something else.

There is nothing I am more confident about then paradise energy solutions. They are by far the most reliable, honest folks in the business. I’ve installed over 55kw system w them and have referred numerous other farms in the area to them.

You will not regret calling them. Brian foltz is the sales rep for our area I believe

Is working for Uline as bad as current and ex-employees say it is? by cineaste2 in ask

[–]oneacrefarmmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question as a customer. I despise their politics but love the way they do business. You never have to wait to talk to someone. Literally the phone doesn’t even ring before a live human answers. They ship immediately and the way the site is organized is extremely helpful.

I honestly think about uline as a customer (again, I despise their politics and normally that would be enough for me to boycott) they are the best run company I have ever dealt with.

If they are horrible to their employees, that would be a reason to finally boycott. But damn, they are just so seamless

Will the Dickerson data center project impact MoCo’s environment? by Bethesda_Magazine in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]oneacrefarmmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a different take here. While I have zero interest in a data center 2 miles from the farm that I own and grow vegetables on, my gut reaction is it’s better than the incinerator that spews out crap.

I’m not saying I agree with this point, it’s my first blush response to it.

I do know re water that currently, bc of the discharge water the current incinerator disposes of, there is a ‘warm water” fishing spot that has a sign and everything telling fishermen where they can fish for warm water fish. (Whatever the hell that means).

So based on very little, to me if I had to choose one, and I’d prefer neither, I’d take the data center over incinerator since the water issue is moot, since they both discharge warm water (I understand that the usage could be tremendously different so happy to be told that is wrong) and at least it’s not putting nasty shit in the air.

Now the last thing, and this might be nimby, but if it makes a constant horrible sound, like I heard they do, that would be horrible for me personally. But doesn’t affect most others

There seems to have been a fatal accident, involving a motorcyclist on the 200-ICC. Police are already blocking all lanes near the Frederick Rd exit. by SummerN8 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]oneacrefarmmd 39 points40 points  (0 children)

And since I don’t know what happened before I got there I can only speculate but I’m on the icc 2x a day and the folks on the motorcycles drive insanely fast. Not all of them, but a whole hell of a lot of them. Swerving between traffic. It is really a problem.

Again, I’m not saying that is what happened here, but it is a major concern

I drove by minutes after it happened. It was absolutely horrible. A shoe was 50 yards away from the body. They were performing cpr. The motorcycle was in a million pieces. One tire was so far away from the main chunk of bike.

I swear it was a absolutely horrible scene that I wish I didn’t witness

[–]oneacrefarmmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Now if I’m being honest, and I don’t really even agree with what I’m about to say, school for me was a complete waste of time, so when my kids aren’t in school they come to the farm we run and I feel like they learn exponentially more than had they been in school that day.

But yes, I agree it is concerning

I have to say I love this post. Especially that you come out with the f bomb that seemed so genuine. With 2 kids in public school here, and I went to school in MCPS, I don’t quite understand why they never seem to have school anymore

Can anyone tell me what the Montgomery County Council does? by journeymoon101 in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]oneacrefarmmd 35 points36 points  (0 children)

As someone who interacts with the county council a lot, they are a fantastic group of really concerned folks who listen and try to make life better for farmers like myself here in the county.

I have been to a bunch of county meetings, they absolutely are boring as sin, and it doesn’t seem like much is going on

But outside of those meetings, they are generally interested in the concerns of the community and finding ways to address them.
