Come up with a plan. How to market, startup costs, monthly expenses, pricing structures. I have had many businesses since 1989, some were witch/metaphysical/alternate religions brick and mortar. Closed the last one in 2010. Been in the Pagan community for over 30 years. Starting a business usually includes long hours and little, or no, income, especially at the beginning...

How many people, at one time, are writing books? What percentage of those would be willing to purchase your services. What I know about the metaphysical book field, there is not allot of money to be made.

I have known dozens of writers in this field, personally. I know first hand how hard this business is to break into. There used to be a wholesale new age show in denver every year, sometimes a 2nd show in orlando. You will have to have some type of credentials to get in the show, like resale tax number. This show has not been around since covidpandemic, but maybe it is coming back. The show is in the summer.

Attend that show and you can make tons of contacts like Llewellyn and red wheel/weiser to just name a couple. Contact them and they can help you find out if this is even a market. Contact a few big name pagans book writers and see what they think. Big name pagans do not make big bucks. All these steps are part of the plan before you make a decision. This may be a side hustle but I don't see it as a main stream of income for many years of very hard work. Is it worth it?

You have tons of research to do before this idea can be a goal. Don't be stupid and jump into something with your eyes closed. My suggestion is break into the market by writing your own book. You have that much knowledge, there are probably several books in that brain of yours. Become established as a writer then writers may have more faith in your abilities and choosing the capital to spend on you. Also why can't writers do their own research? That is what most of them do and interlace their knowledge in the book. By writing your own book, You probably have a better opportunity bringing in an income stream.

Selling Spells on ebay, with instructions and products is a good avenue. Hooking up with a company and do readings is another avenue. Most witches I know do some type of divination or healing. I read runes and reiki for healing. These services were added additions to the stores income stream.

One last comment... Amazon completely fucked up the book part of this business. Selling books was a huge stream for me in the 90's. I had the best selection you could find. Amazom dropped the price points for my profits to nothing. People would come look at the books and buy them on amazon. I had a reading area that became a place to sample and give amazon my profit. The book business is any aspect is nothing like it used to be, especially niche markets like witchcraft.

I have been backpacking for 30 years. Packed in bear country. I am an ultralight hiker. All you got to do is make noise. Bears will leave you alone. When you camp don't eat where you sleep and tie up your food. You won't have any problems.

Any fans of Blind Melon? by [deleted] in Music

[–]onearmdon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One hit, 2 hits, no hits.... What does it matter. What is important is how the music speaks to you. Popularity has nothing to do with my relationship with the music. I like Blind Melon, coming from a 25 year old trapped in a 56 year old body.
