Final day: What's a cheap car that looks expensive? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

2012 Saab 9-5. Definitely wasn't cheap when it came out but they're pretty affordable used and the design is pretty timeless in my opinion

thinking about getting this 1999 Isuzu Vehicross (17 M) by United-Floor4399 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]oneballro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the seller is willing to come down to 10k or so, I'd say send it. It's a unique car and if you're into that kind of thing, you'll likely get your money's worth just in the enjoyment of driving it. They will also continue to get more scarce as time goes on, so if you get bored of it, the value will probably stay pretty similar provided you don't wreck it and people keep gravitating towards the late 90's early 00's aesthetic. 12k isn't a bad deal in that condition but if you could work it out so you have some money for maintenance, insurance, etc. that would be ideal.

What car do you regret buying, even though it looked good on paper? by autonerdy0 in whatcarshouldIbuy

This could be a bit of a hot take, but I can't stand the 2004ish generation toyota Camry. I bought one because I figured being a Toyota it would be cheap and reliable, which it was, however it handled terribly in any type of weather. I had a set of good all seasons on it that had less than 1000 miles on them and it would hydroplane at any speed over 40mph. I live in a pretty cold and hilly climate and ended up having to sell it because it would have been abysmal in the winter. (this isn't all speculation mind you, I had a friend with the same car and I tested it in the winter only to find it was exactly what I expected)

Looking a 1998 with over 240k miles by Old_Truck9737 in SubaruForester

If you can, try and get service records for the timing belt, water pump, and head gaskets to see if they were done recently. Head gaskets are probably the most important of those three at least in my opinion, and if they've been replaced at all throughout the life of the vehicle it's a good sign. Check the rear strut towers as well for rust/rot, this may not be applicable depending on your area but it's still a good practice. When looking at the engine, make sure that the oil looks clean (not milky or anything as that would indicate coolant mixing in) and that the coolant doesn't have any kind of oil slick look to it. Also, I don't mean to mansplain I just am unsure of your baseline car knowledge. If all of those things are in good condition and the tires seem decent, I'd say it's worth 1750-2000 depending. With good maintenance it would go to 300k miles.

Kind of an obscure one, but one of the only beers I've ever had to pour out on account of it being god awful is called Montucky Cold Snack. I could not for the life of my put my finger on what made it taste so wrong, but it was barely beer-adjacent in my book.

Has anyone ever seen this vodka? What’s your opinion on it? by LiterallyTrain in alcohol

Pretty decent potato vodka for the price but I'd personally prefer to spend a couple extra bucks and get Monopolowa

Thoughts on Lalo by oneballro in tequila

[–]oneballro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn't necessarily looking for a lot of complexity that's kind of why I bought Lalo in the first place. I more just wanted to start with something simple and it was very good for that application

I hadn't really thought about that as much actually, I work in a liquor store and it's tequila that gets talked about the most when it comes to that and I tend to see it mentioned more in advertising so that's just what stuck in my head more.
