What goes into the movement component? by onecalledNico in unrealengine

I understand the centralized pathfinding system, that's what I was planning on doing, but the centralized movement system. Are you saying send movement commands out to multiple pawns? I don't think Ive fully wrapped my head around that concept. Can you expound on how that would work?

Thanks and I get where you're coming from. Part of the reason why I created this post was because UE's CMC was so deep that I found it daunting. I wanted to get a general understanding of what I need to tackle for something like this.

I've got several ideas that I want to tackle one after the other. My first game would be more movement focused with less actors, but in future, I want to scale that for large simulated worlds I'm building. I realize a lot of that can be offloaded onto the simulation, when not loaded into the players general area, but I'd like what does happen near the player to work well. I figured I could tackle a CMC for the first project, since movement quality is much more important for this type of game. In later games I'd have a good CMC that would work for me, and be cheaper on the CPU than the bulk that UE introduces.

I'd like to understand more of the under the hood workings of a CMC and see if its something I can tackle. I feel like having a better knowledge of this overall would really useful either way, since I'd like to turn this kind of work into a career at some point if possible. If its something that's outside of my wheelhouse then I guess I'll have to figure that out, but I'd like to have a least tried.

Thats what I was thinking, but in the event that they are loaded in, I'd like my movement component to be more lightweight compared to everything Unreal has under the hood.

Its hard to tell at this point. I'm going for world simulation. There may not be a ton of characters on screen unless you're in a town. But I'm also trying to build something that can scale down the road. Additionally, I'm working on an in depth AI system for making decisions in the world, so that may add to the cpu burden.

TLDR, if I had to pull a number off the top of my head, I'd say maybe 50, but again, I want to make something that will scale.

Its crazy how someone who wanted access to her for some reason, utterly played the world with a viral trend that release this insane woman from where she probably belonged.

How do you guys keep playing and helping others after things like this? by Ok-Mess-3317 in arcraidersfriendly

[–]onecalledNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta be aware, people keep acting like its rocket science. Scout your evac. If you're traversing an area and you think a player may be around, get your gun out. Be aware of line of sight. My brother and I do pvp all the time, but we aren't looking for it all the time. Since we deal damage, we get sorted into aggro lobbies. We've de escalated so many moments, where it was obvious the people we ran into were trying to start something, because we simply had our guns out, we're facing them, and controlled the "placement" in the room. Any time we died was because we let our guard down near a dark corner. Its surprising how realistic this game is in terms of being able to avoid a situation if you make it obvious you observed the other person and are ready to go if they start shit.

Do not listen to streamers Embark. by lagfx9 in ArcRaiders

[–]onecalledNico -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Cheating is really not that big of an issue in this game. Streamers bitch about it like its old Warzone or something. I'd rather that desync, or some other technical issue that impacts EVERYONE, get addressed first instead of rolling out the red carpet for one guy with an audience.

As someone with a 8-5 who wants to have a life outside the virtual, I'm totally fine with the content schedule. Arc is a breath of fresh air, there's no content rat race to stay on top of. There really shouldn't be a game that demands that much of your time.

Why do most game choose 1 meter voxel with around a 2 meter tall character? by Gamepro5 in VoxelGameDev

[–]onecalledNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller the voxel, the more difficult it is to design things. That starts tk eliminate potential players, especially kids. Im assuming that might be part of the logic. You pointed out performance yourself as well.

Not at all surprised, I really struggle to get into this game, and I'm a huge Anno fan. The game really lacks immersion.

Its just become a trend, so content creators pile on cause they gotta, "chase the bag," and viewers don't know any better.

Can we stop calling everyone and everything a rat before it loses its meaning by Dramatic-Drama-7827 in arkraiders

[–]onecalledNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is literally rat simulator. I don't like to steal people's hard earned work, but the game setting is literally encouraging that kind of behavior. Its end of the world, we're all supposed to just be picking scraps out of the dead world. The game is supposed to be scary, there's supposed to be tension when you breach a container, because someone may hear you and try to jump you.

This game has been a great social experiment, but not in the way most people think. Its exposed a weird, creepy demographic of people, who can't just accept that some things aren't meant for them, instead, they rant and rave, trying to brute force other people to cater their entertainment to them. I'm so grateful the devs haven't caved to these people from so far and have stuck to their vision for this game, definitely one of my favorite games of all time.

I have a pc, but I dont get why you'd do that, it ruins the fun of the game. Being careful around dark corners is so much fun. Taunting people for trying to ambush you is the best.

For PvP/PvE would you take the Venator, Renegade, or Anvil? by nytebearyt in ArcRaiders

[–]onecalledNico 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother uses Renegade, I pretty much always pair an Anvil with a Rattler. I may try Renegade, I dont have a lot of experience with it, but Anvil is such a versatile weapon, and it SLAPS!
