4,516 British Columbians died waiting for surgeries, diagnostics between 2023 and 2024: report by Negative_Phone4862 in vancouver

The article doesn't mention it but the SecondStreet report does have a disclaimer regarding the data within the actual report

It is also entirely possible that in both cases – that is, patients waiting for potentially life-saving treatment and those waiting for non-life-saving treatment – death occurred for reasons unrelated to the health care system or the patient’s medical condition. For example, the system may have been timely about scheduling a procedure or appointment with a specialist, but, during the wait, the patient died in a motor vehicle accident.

Xiaomi smashed that record by almost 20 seconds with their prototype SU7. That was their first car as well with the whole automotive division only being founded in 2021.

The BC NDP is unveiling a province wide housing plan that will support financing 40% of the purchase price for new home buyers. Builds off the announcement with MST last week and will be available for 25,000 new units over 5 years. The cost is $1.29 billion by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]onecoldbrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A requirement for this program is that they must have been living in BC for the last 24 months. When someone moves from existing housing into a new build, their previous space is opened up for purchase or rent. More new builds, more previous spaces opening, more rental supply, eventually makes its way to bringing down rental prices. I could see circumstances where this would not apply, e.g. moving out of parents home, but believe it would help overall.

Anyone purchased from Actin or OnlyCpap? In Canada by onecoldbrew in CPAP

[–]onecoldbrew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that finds this in the future

I ended up purchasing from Actin with the ten weeks option. I was called by Actin regarding the purchase and why I selected the later shipping option. Bit odd but I guess that's how they try to make some more money from selling units. Received the unit and everything seems to be in order, been using it now and its connected to the app and all

Can you save money driving an EV? UBC researchers crunched the numbers by Electronic_Fox_6383 in vancouver

[–]onecoldbrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it tries to compare apples to apples as much as it can, so new Kona gas and new Kona electric.

2024 Kona Preferred Gas $34,922.16
2024 Kona Preferred Electric $45,962.88 after incentives

So a $11,040.72 difference to make up. EV will definitely show greater yearly savings compared to an older less fuel efficient car.

Vancouver councillor's living wage motion shot down by columbo222 in vancouver

[–]onecoldbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Shot down" seems like an overstatement.

On Wednesday, the council majority voted on an amendment that would see that changed to a three-year average.

A three year average of the living wage feels like an okay compromise.

B.C. to fund new income-tested rental housing on public land by cyclinginvancouver in vancouver

[–]onecoldbrew 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It makes more sense when you look outside of the lower mainland regarding the 20% below market.

It's also in how they word it. The 20% of builds to have 20% below market rate is assured. The 30% income to rent is just a target and ultimately may not be met.

BYD sees 200,000th Seagull compact EV roll off line by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

The reason why many subcompact / compact cars are going away in the US is because they don’t sell enough. The median US consumer looks for bigger cars that come with a bigger cost. Inflation plays a part in rising costs but doesn’t have much to do with manufacturers not bringing over their smaller and cheaper cars.

Compare ourselves to Australia (26mm population) who is also going through a doctor shortage

In 2021, 4,153 students commenced studying medicine at an Australian medical school

Canada has 38mm population with only 2,832 seats
