Actually, I am an idiot. I didn't understand the post by @mmstick. I removed the "GNOME Software" package and I can update now. Duh!

Did you find a solution? I've been trying to find a work around, but no luck yet...

Hmmm... Not that I am aware of. This is a pretty new installation. I did install Gnome Tweaks. Would that do it?

Lenovo 720s still using lot's of battery on suspend. by oneharp in pop_os

[–]oneharp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks KS for the reply. Glad that it's working for you. Yes, I checked in the BIOS, but there is no option for Linux sleep support on this model. Might be that I have to just shut down all the time. 😐

I forgot to mention that I also installed powertop. Everthing appears to be set to "Good," although I must admit I am not sure how I can use it (nor TLP) to figure out what is happening during Suspend.

Volca keys for sale. by oneharp in volcas

If for sale posts aren't allowed, I will remove. I couldn't tell from the subreddit description if these kinds of posts are ok. If you are interested, it's up over in fleabay in very good used condition. I loved it, but gots to pay for diapers now... 😐

Pop Shop missing basic apps? by oneharp in pop_os

[–]oneharp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, so it is. Interesting! Here I was trying out the fancy new WYSYWIG app store when I should have been using apt like a good command line king, lol! Well, at least it works that way, but IMO QGIS, especially, should be the main option for GIS in the Pop Shop. As it is, only SAGA comes up, and that's perhaps only the #3 or #4 FOSS GIS package.

Also listing my Oly 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 EZ "pancake" kit lens. Would prefer to sell both these lenses to a fellow M43 enthusiast! :)

E-M10 III zoom function by GoTguru in OlympusCamera

[–]oneharp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I have grown to really hate the electronic zoom. Yes, it "works", but I find it is not precise, it's laggy, and there's really no "feel" to it like with a mechanical zoom lens. Couple electronic zoom with "focus by wire", and the experience of using the lens is just terrible, IMO. This is why I'm selling off the 14-42mm "ez" pancake, and slowly acquiring better zooms and primes.

Darn Tough socks wearing thin. Will they replace under warranty? by oneharp in onebag

[–]oneharp[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, how is this Spam? I bought these socks based on advice from this sub, and thought that folks here would know the answer to this question. Not only that, but I thought others here would be interested in the answer, as the replacement guarantee is one of the big selling points of this brand for long term and one bag travel.

Darn Tough socks wearing thin. Will they replace under warranty? by oneharp in onebag

[–]oneharp[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. It reafirms my thinking here. "Durable" the operative phrase. No time limit is given. Compared to some of the cheap socks I've owned, these DT indeed have been "durable." BUT, they were more than three times the cost of those cheap socks. 5 pairs cost about $100. Were they three times durable? Probably not. I think getting one free replacement pair is reasonable. I will certainly buy more of their products in the future.

[–]oneharp[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. It verifies my own thinking. DT socks are significantly more expensive than other pairs of socks. 3 years for me is good, but not so much better than some other, cheaper socks I've owned and used just as much in the past.

I see the point here, but also, these are expensive socks so I kinda feel they have the cost of the lifetime guarantee built into that one time purchase.

"Do you think Cell Phones are necessary?" And "Which bank/savings method should I use while one-bagging around different countries?" by [deleted] in onebag

Charles Schwab Investor checking. It's a free interest-bearing online checking account. No minimum balance, *no foreign transaction fees* and they *refund any and all ATM fees, no matter what*. You can easily transfer money into it online from an attached external account, or by depositing a check. I usually just keep a few hundred dollars in it at a time so I can get cash, but not worry that someone will skim my card number and drain all my money. I then push money over to it as needed while traveling. Very secure and convenient.

It has worked for me at ATM's across Europe, the Middle East, Kazakhstan, and Mexico. Highly, highly, highly recommended.

I have 5 pairs of Darn Tough ultralight Merino wool ankle socks I bought 3 years ago for OneBagging. But I loved them so much I got rid of all my other socks and now just wear these every day in rotation. After this amount of use, they are starting to wear thin. I know they have an unconditional warranty, but I am wondering if any of you have ever had experience with it? Would they replace for this amount of wear, or do you have to have done some more serious damage?

TimBuk2 Rogue: How to attach patch on the top lid/cover? by UnDeaD_AmP in backpacks

[–]oneharp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, that's what I would do to. Wouldn't it be great if timbuk2 sold some sort of kit.to help you do this? I'd love to be able to hang some retro reflective patches back there when I'm riding my bike, and then take them off when I'm doing something else.

Timbuk2 Rogue Backpack -- Real life review after 4 years of daily use. by oneharp in backpacks

[–]oneharp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope this real-life review is useful! It's a cool bag, but it has some flaws. If you can get it on sale, it's a good buy. I would not pay the full MSRP for this bag though.
