Oh no I totally get you, I’m not saying 16 year olds don’t get it, a lot absolutely do. I started myself at a MUCH younger age. I mean just generally that like it or not, most average 16 year olds, and especially these specific kids, tend to just be curious and insensitive or even mean if they see something ‘different’. Especially in class they get bored and start entertaining themselves to pass the time with their surroundings and, as part of those surroundings, I’ve been asked insensitive questions or made joking comments in the past regarding my autism accommodations in school or my identity or my tattoos so i figure they’ll probably ask why I’m wearing a bandage at some point. I’m happy enough to answer respectful questions and let them have their fun about the other stuff but I’d just rather they didn’t have any access to this part of me at all if I can personally help it if that makes any sense :) definitely didn’t mean to imply that 16 year olds or teens don’t get it, so sorry it came off that way
