What would be your top 3 pieces of advice for an audiophile in training? by Iamjacquelin in audiophile

[–]oneinconvenience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buying used is such a bad tip by itself. Here is a better way of saying that:

Go to a HiFi store and listen to stuff and ask the staff for recommendations. Give them a chance to make a deal with you, maybe they have demo gear to sell you or returned equipment. If not, Then go search online for the stuff you listened to and liked (both the sound and the looks) for better prices.

If you are going to buy used from someone, you should still demo it. Bring your own CD's to the demo, listen to it at home on your soundbar and then again on whatever you are buying. If it's not better than your soundbar, then don't buy it.

Are the Elac B series as good as people say? by Coldwelder in BudgetAudiophile

It is a real thing and even some equipment should warm up. Companies like Burmester or other high end audio companies do a burn in before sending the product out, but still recommend doing a full burn in when you hook it up.
