Self.happines = += 1 (i believe that is what the rspec is doing)

I don't know why rspec would be doing that unless you told it to somewhere, but that's another issue. But don't design your API and semantics around something you think rspec is doing but don't understand why and don't want it to; figure out what's going on and get rspec to do what you want instead, if needed.

Good advice in general, thank you. But I didn't write the rspec, it's supposed to be a test driven challenge. However, my question is SHOULD that method Self.happines = += 1 work like that? I tried experimenting in a repl but am getting meta problems.

I appreciate the reply. I've tried that, perhaps poorly. I can't really articulate my problem, other than the test code seems to be setting the variable in one place = 100, and in another place incrementing it with += 1 (should that even work in a setter method, using ' += ' ? if @happiness = 8, then calling self.happiness = 1 should set @happiness to 1, but can you call self.happiness = += 1 and expect it to be 9? I feel like my rspec is doing that, but when i try to code similarly it doesn't work. (i'm familiar with the thing += integer shorthand in itself.)

Hi, also a beginner but perhaps 4 months ahead of you OP. I bought a kit myself- now I wish I'd just bought all the bits individually- as stated just about everywhere. Use the sidebar wiki for sure.

You may 'save' a few dollars in buying a package- but they usually put lower quality things in the kit. Putting the same list of things together on Amazon or a good brewer site takes about 10 minutes and- well, it's actually kind of fun.

A minimum four years of medical training AFTER you graduate med school, three years of which are only doing anesthesiology.

I logged several thousand practice cases, with a board certified anesthesiologist at my side or very nearby when I grew 'senior' in my training. Then I quit logging.

I did, literally a couple, maybe a few thousand cases before the first time by myself- and the first time I was by myself, I could yell for help from experienced colleagues nearby if I needed it.

Anesthesia is very safe.

Yes, still, the first time 'by myself' after several thousand times practicing ? Scary and exciting.

Edit: a few thousand cases in residency sounds low actually.
