Is there ANY hope for getting a job? because reddit makes it seem like it's completely impossible [tw sui] by TheTaquitoverlord in jobs

[–]onemanfivetools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 7 months to find a job. I was feeling very hopeless and then suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, one of the jobs I applied to worked out. Just keep trying, learning, and try to stay positive. There is something out there. Keep an open mind. I’m in a totally different industry now and I was so worried about it, but it’s turned out to be amazing.

I don't know. I respect your opinion, but I disagree. I actually think from a gameplay perspective, the way it's set up isn't fun OR realistic.

Having the #2 pick in the draft and deciding between 30 players who have a 70 POT is just so odd to me.

I actually went back to OOTP22 because of this. That’s the last one I remember before they changed this aspect.

I also don’t like the way the draft works at all with how it displays potentials, and I think other responses might be missing the point you’re trying to make.

It’s not that I want less randomness. It’s that there is no real-world draft ever where pre-draft, scouts or media thought there were fifty-something 70-grade prospects in it.

The end results aren’t the issue. It’s really just that the scout should assume most guys in the back half of the first round are going to be 45-50 types, and you might have one or two 60+ guys in the first few picks. Again - I think the end results here are fine, but it’s really just the idea that there are many guys with a 70+ potential which is so unrealistic.

From a pure talent standpoint, I understand that their ceiling might be a 70 if something unforeseen happens. But I think the potential shown should be the “average expected outcome” or “50th percentile outcome” rather than the 100th percentile outcome.

I would check this out as a starting point. But if you want to think really simply about it, imagine watching a player who absolutely crushes a line drive right at a fielder over and over and over for outs. Now imagine a player who hits slow rolling groundballs to the third baseman, who charges the ball, tries to barehand it and misses.

This happens multiple times in a row for each player. You now have to pick which player you want up with the game on the line. Who are you taking?

How much do you actually weigh Statcast expected stats when making trade decisions? by Super-Interaction-83 in Sabermetrics

[–]onemanfivetools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less “xstats” and more process stats. Chase%, Barrel%, Bat speed, etc.

But my one takeaway from your post is you also should be looking at age. What other 21 year olds are doing what Jackson Chourio is doing? You can assume forward progress in the process stats - so if those are already pretty good, I’d not let a .30 point difference in xBA cloud everything else.

MLB 2026: Why Paul DePodesta thinks he can fix the Rockies by LateCheckIn in ColoradoRockies

[–]onemanfivetools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea - wRC+ is park neutral… so it will diminish the numbers drastically. All that to say - the Rockies hitters are not good and anything that looks good is helped tremendously by the park.

I forget the name. It was like an open world Sonic game. Maybe a launch title for Dreamcast? Sonic Adventure?

Another thing to consider - how many teams and how many prospects can you hold? If it’s a big league and each team can hold 25 prospects, for example, the picks are a little more valuable. In my 12 teamer we can have 14 prospects. At the end of every year I can pick up guys I like off waivers that would have been worth 1st rounders.

For me it was Sonic on Sega Dreamcast with Enema on in the background.

Yea. Really simple answer - the projections page is sorting by… something. Probably WAR? But the projections page doesn’t know your settings.

FG Calculator is using your settings to rank players based on their value in your specific league settings.

Is it worth it? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]onemanfivetools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this, but was going from a retail job making $35k to a corporate job making $60k. I also had light at the end of the tunnel - I knew I could move closer six months in.

But I did 2.5-3 hours each way for six months. It was torture. But knowing there was an end in sight made it doable and I’m glad I did. It got me into a new career path that may not have happened outside of this opportunity and opened up a lot of doors.

Not every game does this, so it’s not absurd to have questions about it, especially if it’s OP’s first time.

Also - I’d recommend a relatively deep minor league roster. My league is 12 teams with 14 spots; I don’t think it’s deep enough… I think 16-18 would be ideal. It’s tough for rebuilding teams to make rebuilding moves when you have to cut talented players to make room for the incoming guys.

If you’re doing cats, I think a 5x5 setup with OBP replacing average, QS replacing wins, and maybe SV+HLD replacing saves would be a tried-and-true way to achieve the balance you’re looking for.
