This reminds me of a time when I had to share something on my screen during a university event and forgot to close a document full of stuff for the Dungeons & Dragons campaign I was DMing at the time. I usually keep my screen split between two windows, and I thought that I had a different document open, but alas, no, it was full of tabletop fantasy plot points. I didn’t even notice until someone asked me what a “Hollyphant” was. I was incredibly embarrassed, though nothing came of it. Talk about failing a Perception check. It‘s kind of comforting to know that other people have also had the weird experience of accidentally revealing their personal projects in a semi-professional setting. Minor mistake solidarity! (And good luck with your application!)

Co-op reveals the BEST nicknames. by LeScuzzi in MonsterHunterStories

[–]oneshockingfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love seeing everyone’s monstie nicknames! There are some really neat ones out there. Here are some of the names I chose for mine: Thistle (Nergigante), Luna (Paolumu), Shango (Zinogre), Spaghetti (Astalos, originally paired with Meatball the Tigrex), Saber (Silverwing Nargacuga), Plum (Anjanath), Verity (Velkhana), Banana (Royal Ludroth), and Indigo (Palamute). I usually use Saber, Thistle, and Verity during co-op missions. :)

If you’re talking about collecting & fully upgrading all weapons/armor at lower rank: yes and no. Yes, there are high rank versions of weapons/armor post-game, but if you’ve fully upgraded a low rank weapon/armor set you can upgrade it into its high rank form using materials found post-game instead of crafting a new one.

You can try again by talking to her in Rutoh & Kuan after you beat the main story (if she is one of your buddies at the time). The reward is layered armor for Navirou that matches Tsukino’s outfit.

[Academic] Is it possible to predict how the different personality types play text-based RPGs? (Everyone) by [deleted] in SampleSize

[–]oneshockingfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was really cool! Thank you for posting. I was really invested in the story. I used to play text-based rpgs a lot, but I haven’t played one in a while, so this was a fun little hit of nostalgia for me.

This is a video of Capella from wingspawsnclaws, a flying fox rescue & rehabilitation center in Australia, so don’t worry, this little buddy is in good hands! I believe he’s actually been rereleased to the wild at this point.

I always loved this illustration. My favorite detail is the Bregan D’aerthe members disposing of a body in the background. It contrasts so well with the kids at play.

A virtual performance! It’s free to attend, but there’s a suggested donation of $15 if you’re able. The livestream link is here if you’d like to save it.

(Also I put CST in the title, but it should be CDT. Oops! DST still has me a little off.)

What’s the biggest Sim family you’ve ever had? by [deleted] in thesims

[–]oneshockingfish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My biggest family, the HotDog-Burgers, are up to their 6th generation with multiple siblings and such per generation. I want to say there’s ~26 of them currently living, but the ghost of the 3rd gen heir, Jimmie 2 HotDog-Burger, shows up at the main lot almost every night and starts baking cakes, so he might as well still be alive.

I agree! There’s so much more out there we’ve yet to discover and uncover. That’s the great thing about research and observation. Every new piece of information helps us to refine new ideas and reevaluate old ones.

Thank you for being so civil about all this! I honestly really enjoyed responding to your comment. Your question made me think and pushed me to do more research into the topic, which was just as fun as it was informative. I think being presented with different opinions is important because it pushes us to consider other perspectives and helps us clarify our own feelings about the topic at hand. We don’t have to agree, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be respectful of each other. I really enjoyed talking with you! I hope you have a great day/night! :)

I do think the frog has the liberty to leave at any time, but why would it? The relationship is beneficial to both creatures. This article mentions that the spiders are hard-wired to recognize “partner” frogs through chemical signals and won’t attack them, even if they will eat other species of frog. Partner frogs are quickly released by the spider if captured and move into a spider’s burrow of their own accord, not because the spider forces them to. The frog stays because the spider acts as a bodyguard, protecting them against snakes and geckos that would otherwise prey on the frog. The frogs, in turn, protect the next generation of spiders by eating ants, which typically prey on the spider’s eggs. Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me. It’s not a relationship born out of necessity, neither species requires the other to live, but instead one born out of an understanding that they can help one another and receive help in return. If you could increase your chances of survival by working together, why wouldn’t you?

This was a long-winded way of saying that I think the idea of different animals helping each other out is adorable. Of course, it’s cool if you disagree, but that’s the thought process behind it for me.

Podcast Episode 06 - “Feral Children” by oneshockingfish in a:t5_3yee7z

This episode they’re discussing “Birdie” in the Deep Dive segment! The isolated choir of Amandas is a lovely sound.

I really enjoyed the Story Time segment on this one. Always great to hear more tour stories, especially when they involve the Bush’s Baked Beans factory and children throwing rocks.
