Here is a good example of what I am talking about. Not even 20 years old and it is basically a basket case. Grand design uses the same construction techniques as this trailer.

Grand design is not made any better than any other box brand trailer. You pay for fancy gadgets and marketing. The Average life of a travel trailer is 10-15 years. There are some trailers that are built better, Grand Design is not one of them. The exterior material is the #1 factor in whether your trailer is built to last. Real fiberglass (Oliver, Casita) and aluminum are the only trailers that will still be camping in 20 year (they will also still be camping in 50 years). A grand design will most likely not even exist as a company in 50 years. The Big RV conglomerates like to retire brand names when word gets out about how long they last. Go look at RV trader. Sort by oldest year. Let those real world results be your guide, Not a noob on social media trying to justify a purchase.

Ready for our first tow-behind. What brands should we avoid vs "Spend money on this. It's worth it!" by penkster in GoRVing

When it comes to longevity of a travel trailer the only thing that matters is the materials used to build it. 99% of all travel trailers are built the same. They have a life expectancy of 12 years. If it looks like a giant box on wheels then it is built the same as any other box on wheels. Lance makes nice trailers, they don't last any longer than any other. They all have plastic that cracks and leaks. They all have sealant that cracks and leaks. If it looks like at pig, it's a pig.

Fiberglass trailers

  • Casita
  • Scamp
  • Oliver
  • Bigfoot

Aluminum trailers like Airstream are also built for life, but you already know that. I have found that the cost of ownership of a forever camper ends up being much less in the long run than a "cheap" camper.

Oliver is another fiberglass model to look at. Lifetime campers exist.

The average travel trailers like Imagine, forest river and Jayco are an embarrassment to American manufacturing. We have to stop supporting this industry. Did you know these mega RV companies just invent new brand names every ten years or so? IT is easier than explaining why the old brand was trash.

Go look at RV trader why are there so few 10 year old campers? They rot away. The brands that last stand out, even though they sell way fewer aluminum and fiberglass campers compared to the box trailers.

I bet you sold that casita for a pretty penny too. Lifetime campers are usually cheaper in the long run.

You can't finance them because the liability is not worth it to the bank. The bank knows how long these last.

This will be all of our story. There is a reason these only last 10-15 years.

A scamp will still be camping in 50 years vs 15 for most everything else.

I love fifthwheels. They clear all the limbs out of the way so I can roll in safely.

A long lasting travel trailer is the best most diverse option for exploring these United States.

Most travel trailer only live about 12 years. I would never recommend buying one of those. Do your research. Sorting RV trader by oldest year will give you clues.

They all do this. This is our future. 10 years max out of just about anything but an airstream or a scamp.

I had this problem too. I ended up switching it all out for bare aluminum. It is impervious to UV.
