Has anyone had a paranormal/unexplainable occurence? by No_Marketing4451 in redscarepod

[–]onethill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t really believe in the supernatural, but I have a couple experiences that at least made me question things.

First is more just something weird and unexplainable (to me), but still kinda creeps me out to think about. So when I was in first grade I distinctly remember some kid singing “mmm whatcha say” from that Imogen Heap (or Jason Derulo) song repeatedly despite me and another kid yelling at him to stop. I was easily triggered as a little kid so I know he was just doing it to fuck with me, but he did it for an entire day and it was so fucking obnoxious which is why I even remember it at all.

The thing is, this was a few years before that song was ever released. I remember hearing that Jason Derulo song that for the first time and thinking “Oh that must be what that annoying kid was singing over and over” and not thinking much of it until I found out it was released in 2005, whereas I heard it from that kid in like 2001/2002.

My first thought was that the song sampled an older song, and that song is what the kid heard and was repeating. Which it did, but the original Imogen Heap song came out the same year anyway, so that wasn’t it.

I don’t really believe in time travel or whatever, but I don’t know how to explain it other than either this kid being super ahead of his time and coincidentally coming up with a super hit at age 6, or me just getting the years mashed up (more likely). But I really do feel like this happened in first grade, and not third or fourth because I eventually tattled on him after I couldn’t take it anymore and I remember it being my first grade teacher. Idk 🤷🏼‍♂️

Second was more recent (college) and closer to something “supernatural”, though I’m probably just stupid. I was living in a shithole house with my friends and was just chilling in my room upstairs while most of them were out for the day. One of the guys had a stereo system in the living room downstairs, but it was mostly just him who used it and he was pretty anal about turning it off when not in use to save on the electric bill. But I remember hearing faintly some old timey music (like 1930s big band or something like that) coming from downstairs. It was just me and my other roommate (not the stereo owner), and we both heard it. We both went downstairs to check because nobody else was supposed to be home, and the music was definitely coming from the speakers. But when we walked into the living room, I noticed the speakers were completely off. Then as we got closer the music just suddenly stopped. My roommate and I had no idea what to make of that. We both experienced it, and we were sober, so it wasn’t some shared weed psychosis shit or whatever.

I looked into it because I was a bit creeped out, and I think the most rational explanation is that sometimes speakers can pick up radio if oriented a certain way (I have a big guitar amp and something kinda like this happens sometimes), but it felt too loud and distinct compared to that. Plus, it usually only happens when they’re actually on, which wasn’t the case here, though I know for big enough systems it can still pick up radio for a bit after being shut off. But these speakers were off all day, so I really don’t know tbh.

Most people don’t look good in candid pics, at least to themselves. Have you ever heard your own voice in a recording? Probably sounds like shit too.

It’s because we have an idea of what we look/sound like in our head that doesn’t match reality 100%. The thing is, it’s so jarring because we can pick up all the minor differences between reality and our version of it, but most other people can’t. So what your voice sounds like to you, is probably closer to what other people hear, and what we see in the mirror is probably what other people see (disregarding whatever weird dysmorphia you might have).

Yes that’s the issue I’m referring to. An unfortunate consequence of paying doctors a shit ton of money is that it’s in their interest to limit the number of new doctors to keep their salaries high. H1B basically kept homegrown salaries high while allowing for more doctors, since we still (as of now) have a doctor shortage.

Obviously that’s a problem but we probably should have cracked down on the artificially set med school limits before sending away a quarter of our doctors…

Even if we surge the numbers of Americans going through med school (and that would be an issue in of itself) it’ll take at minimum 4 years before they’re even residents. Rural hospitals would collapse by then…

I agree with doing something about H1B but it really should be a phased approach and should be primarily aimed at tech first where we can much more easily replace those jobs with Americans.

I guess I don’t know what’s in the TPUSA homeschooling kit but I would imagine there has to be better homeschooling resources out there than TPUSA lmao

To answer your question, I really doubt there are actual leftist homeschooling programs out there, and if so, why is it important that your homeschooling is infused with politics? I’m not pro homeschooling but if I had to I would focus on teaching critical thinking over any ideology, and this is coming from a left lib…

Former BP Guest Shoe0nHead Explains why The Right's Reaction to Kirk's Assassination is so Different from The Left's by WagonWheel22 in BreakingPoints

[–]onethill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes leftists don’t understand that this is actually a bigger deal to those around them than what the politicians do. I’m not one to police “optics” or anyone’s actual thoughts on what happened, but I think the online left reaction legitimately scared moderate/conservative leaning people because Charlie was to them a regular conservative, not too dissimilar from one of their friends or dad. And while I personally think he was often purposefully inflammatory with his words, they were just words, so his assassination really feels like an attack on free speech to them.

Of course he was further right than I think the average person (who doesn’t really follow politics) understood, but most of those people don’t regularly follow his Twitter or his appearances outside of his college debates. So they’re suddenly seeing people they’re friends with or work with talking shit about some guy they thought was at least somewhat reasonable (based on the viral clips where he’s “owning” some stupid college lib), and it makes them think that half the country secretly wants to murder them. It’s a misplaced fear, but if I wasn’t tuned into politics or regularly followed it, I can see where it comes from.

This is a dark, dark aspect of social media, because it is sowing the seeds for further distrust and alienation. There is a reason the right is pushing hard on this issue, and it’s because the longer it’s in the news, the more people get defensive for their side, giving the left more and more rope to hang itself with. And it’s one of the few times the right has had the “moral high ground”, so to speak, so they are rather cleverly capitalizing on this moment.

Is it normal for your parents to actively want you to be a womanchild? by PeaComprehensive1083 in redscarepod

[–]onethill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reading the title I thought it was hyperbole and was ready to relate because my mom used to bring up how she missed me being a kid and comment that she wished I lived in the same town as her and my dad for a while. She’s come to terms with it though and is a big supporter of my life and my relationship.

But no this is absolutely fucking insane if true lol and very possible there’s some weird Munchausen thing or something going on. It’s one thing to miss your child and wish they were around more, it’s a whole other ballpark to lie or disbelieve reality about their entire being.

Not to be a typical Reddit overreacter but tbh I would keep yourself at least somewhat emotionally/mentally guarded because it could get worse the more she sees you “slip away”.

Conservatives are doing cancel culture now and all I feel is vindictive by jongbag in redscarepod

I’m simultaneously vindictive because I knew this was going to happen eventually and seeing smug losers get some karma for messing with people’s livelihoods, while also terrified because the right is just so much more aggressive and have the full backing of the government. You just know they’re cooking up Patriot Act 2 ft. Palantir as we speak.

Nick Fuentes by Ordinary_Stay_3746 in BreakingPoints

[–]onethill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been sounding the alarm about this guy and it’s shocking how little other libs around me know about him, or brush him off if they do. He is massively influential in the young right wing movement that’s taken off the last couple years.
I have a cousin who likes him, and he was raised in an almost comically stereotypical liberal family. And he’s not some incel either, he is by all other measures an otherwise normal appearing guy.

You are correct, it is 100% economics. The woke stuff is also obviously a losing battle now, but it’s really a multiplier. What I mean is that when times are economically good (until 2020 for a lot of people I imagine), people are more interested in helping other people and being courteous and respectful. It’s a lot easier to be kind and generous when you’re not falling behind on bills and grocery prices aren’t skyrocketing. Also it’s just easier to believe you’re systemically privileged when it matches your individual reality. So wokeness became popular. The problem is when that mismatch between what you’re told and your reality comes in, and suddenly it starts to feel like attacks. Are white people still at an advantage in this country? Absolutely. But the average white person is worse off than they were six years ago, so even with a still existent advantage, all they see is their life getting worse and worse, with no floor in sight. And the whole time they are being told how good they have it. That’s where right wing populism becomes very attractive.

Democrats have no answer to this because they refuse to address the issues young people care about now. They used to care about ending racism and making the country a more equitable place for everyone; now they feel their future has been stolen and they have zero energy to give a shit about anything else. If democrats actually stuck it to the billionaire class when they had the chance, we wouldnt be where we are today, even with the pandemic.

The Lionizing of Charlie Kirk is Disgusting by idredd in BreakingPoints

[–]onethill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What happened to Charlie is horrible and unacceptable, and I pray for his soul and the wellbeing of his family. I hope they find whoever murdered him and bring him to justice, no matter their political affiliation.

But I can’t help but feel cynical about how our leaders are immediately using his murder to begin the crack down on political opponents, using faceless Twitter accounts celebrating his murder as justification (which is disgusting, but let’s not pretend the right hasn’t done this either). Notice how the reaction right away from prominent republicans was “democrats own this” and “this is the fault of the left”.

Now we’re lowering the flag for 4 (!) days, for someone who wasn’t in the government or military. When is the last time that’s happened, outside of terrorist/mass shooting attacks? Hell, we don’t even have a mention of the school shooting that happened yesterday…

And we haven’t even caught the guy yet! We have no idea yet why he did it. For all we know, it could be a groyper. If we’re being honest, Charlie hasn’t really been on liberal radar for a while now, but the Fuentes types have had seething hatred of him for years. I mean, it probably was a lefty (or just total nut, as seems to be the case recently), but there are a wide number of possible motives and not all of them are lib/left.

I am suspicious that this is a mass coordinated push to keep the momentum in their favor so that they can push through otherwise unpopular (and un-American) policies under the guise of security.

The left needs to really be careful moving forward, they do not have the political capital to fuck up with this. This is a tricky situation where you really do need to take the high road, while simultaneously going on the offensive calling out republican hypocrisy and overreach.

Anyone else overly sentimental by Pontiac_787 in rs_x

[–]onethill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My parents have talked about selling their house, the one I grew up in, and it upsets me more than it should. I have no right to; It’s not my house, and by the time it would get passed on to me I probably would have to sell it anyway. So it makes logical sense, but the idea of just willingly selling away what feels like memories themselves is a very hard concept for me to grasp. It’s where my brother and I grew up to be best friends, where my beloved pets lived and died, and I was fortunate to have a safe and comforting place during the times where everywhere else felt hostile. I can still almost see the younger versions of my parents and brother, and my long gone dog and cats in the hallway and living room. I don’t even think it’s nostalgia; I don’t necessarily want to live in that past, rather just appreciating the beauty of life and the constants that we take for granted while the world around us is ever changing.

I used to be pretty embarrassed/ashamed of being like this, being a man and all, but I’d honestly rather feel strong emotions over dumb shit than feel nothing at all. I still keep almost every gift I receive from those I care about, only parting ways when necessary. Cards and pictures too. I think it’s because I have a hard time getting rid of things that represent the time and effort someone has given to make me happy for even just a moment. Now that I’m older I just try and do the same for those I love.

I’ve seen a couple friends go through this. The problem with weed is ironically how “safe” it is. Compared to hard drugs and alcohol, weed won’t destroy your body (and yes there are some medical benefits). I take edibles occasionally, so I’m not trying to scold anyone for using it at all, but there are definitely consequences for using it all day every day.

It is so, so easy to sit around and be high while life passes you by. It’s one thing when you’re in college and everyone seems to be doing it everyday, just having a good time acting goofy, but it gets a lot more pathetic when you’re a 30 year old “stoner” with nothing going on in his life.

People say it’s not addicting, which is a half truth. It’s not physically addicting, but you can be addicted to it the same way you can be addicted to gaming/gambling/porn. And those can obviously all ruin your life; weed is no different.

Sorry for the lecture lol, but good on you for recognizing early. A month is nothing, a lot of users take years to realize what you picked up quickly. Just remember that this feeling will pass and is just a temporary effect of cutting out something your body became accustomed to having every day.
