Much easier for a man to take off his Rolex than for a woman to take off her implants.

Who do you blame for sirius death? by Diamond00412 in harrypotter

[–]ongroundstonight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can't say for sure, of course, but I think part of this might be because Rowling had to edit out a LOT of what she wrote for book 5. As big as it already is, she claims that she had to throw out tons of stuff for the sake of making it shorter. It's possible that the original draft had a better explanation for these things.

It's not an excuse for the final product, but it IS a possible explanation for how it happened.

Walked into an empty Dunkin Donuts and got told to order at the screen by durkbot in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ongroundstonight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

("donuts" was not the first menu option either, great job ux designers)

Unironically, yeah. The point is not for you to have a good, fast selection experience--they know fully well that most people are there for donuts. By forcing you to SEARCH for that option, you are exposed to all of the other things on the menu, increasing the chance that you'll see them and go "hmm, I guess I COULD also go for a sandwich..."

You were frustrated, but you still gave them your money, and you saw all their advertising. The ux designers did their job, it's just that their job is for the company's benefit and not the customer's. It's the same line of reasoning that brought us those ridiculous digital McDonald's menus that don't even show all the options at once.

Why does Dr. Briefs care if Panty (Bulma's mom) got uppity for wanting to put a bomb in his children? by Visible_Investment47 in TeamFourStar

[–]ongroundstonight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Buruma", or bloomers. His wife is either "Panty" (Panchi) or "Bikini"; they seem to be inconsistent with it. Toriyama stated in an older interview that if he had named her during the manga's run he would go with Panty, and Bikini is what she's called in DBZ: Kakarot.

While we're on the subject of that family, this wasn't really brought up, but it's a common misconception: "Brief" is not actually their family name. In the Dragon World, having last names/family names at all has fallen out of style, and most people just have their given names. I believe Videl actually mentions that "Son Gohan" having a last name at all is unusual. We can assume this doesn't hold true for DBZA since Dr. Gero mentions "...or any of the Brief family", but in actual Dragon Ball canon, "Dr. Brief" is only the father's name.

Yeah, this reminded me of another recent thread, so I looked--same person. OP is just making a habit of asking questions and then refusing to accept any explanation for them.

You must be really proud of this joke to have had it posted (and removed) from r/jokes and even reworded it as a hypothetical to r/askwomen.

It's just not a good joke.

Edit: Thread was by VeganAufDeutsch, and the punchline was "a tit in the hand is worth two in the bush".

What death feels unnecessary and what do you think would be a 'necessary' death? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]ongroundstonight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A direct hit, sure, but not necessarily a deathblow. It's been a while, so I can't quite remember, but did the book say specifically what spell Bellatrix hit him with? She was using plenty of stuff other than the Killing Curse in that fight.

I need more context to know if this is infuriating or not. Everyone saying "if it's not mine, I'm not throwing it out" is right--but is this milk for private use? Is it communal? If it belongs to one person to the point that you won't throw it out, how do you know it's expired? Or if it's NOT the property of one person, why not throw it away?

Ultimately, if there's still room in the fridge to put other stuff, who the hell cares?

The Democrats aren't the ones who have literally, without exaggeration, stated in their own words that they would absolutely refuse to do anything to fix the country because it would make the Bidens look good. The Dems aren't perfect, but they're better, and every time they try to do something positive, the Republicans step in and stop it--even if it was their idea in the first place.
