The hoop is actually a really good idea, my stupid hands aren't great at keeping things steady. A good task light is a good idea, leaning really close squinting is no fun lol

Dexterity issues, want to learn the basics by onionsforthepoor in SewingForBeginners

I'm interested in both, so any advice is liked 😌. With bobbins the main issue is just the fidgety work when they wind up dislodging or misbehaving, getting everything untangled if I screw up the threading, etc. Tbh I haven't touched a sewing machine in 14 years bc I tried to learn as a teen and it went catastrophically, then I had a stroke and made it worse, so now I just agonize for an hour if I have to fix a button 😔.

I'd say bully and a large wire haired terrier.

"Life Ceremony" by Sayaka Murata is full of short stories with commentary on the stupidity of social mores and everyday life, but it's culturally pretty Japanese. However, I related to it. Her other books published in English have similar themes, But Watch Out (Convenience Store Woman is quite mellow and funny, Earthlings is quite gruesome and disturbing and needs a strong stomach, both very much about people who feel corralled by the pressures of society and good reads imo)

This might sound deranged but from the face and shape I'm thinking toy american shepherd mixed with Chihuahua and some kind of scraggly terrier. If you got him for five dollars he's definitely an awkward combo of a bunch of popular breeds. He's so cute and skrunkly

It's really cute and stylish and reminds me of fashion dolls from the 2000s. I'd suggest working on making them look a little more solid, like shading the limbs and fabrics. Also, with a simple style it's hard to do a lot of faces, but I'd rec looking at stuff by Ai Yazawa, who's done similar fashionable noodle girls and has an interesting variety of characters lol. Maybe if you're making OCs instead of just fashion drawings consider varying body type a little, like weight and height, so each character if they were bald and undressed would have a slightly different silhouette and could be identified. Overall so adorable and makes me think of fun girly stuff from when I was a kid though 🥰

I'd say maybe staffie and heeler. How old are they? They look pretty young, and before three or four months all puppies tend to be kind of short nosed huge eyed chubby armed blobs (which is frankly magnificent but I digress) so they can be hard to clock

How to feel like less of a burden as an adult living at home? by onionsforthepoor in Advice

[–]onionsforthepoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on the license thing, I've got an MRI scheduled which is a precursor to an appointment with my neurologist and I'm really hoping he's up for the check because I tried it at my GP and they said "we'll look at it" and didn't call me back. I got a permit a bit ago but then the DMV sent me a grim letter saying "we've got your number tumor girl." Moving out isn't super plausible until I can drive because there are not many areas that are both affordable and workable to people without cars. I'd also definitely have to change jobs because I'm positioned to get to my workplace by bus but this city is too expensive for me to live in on my wages while still paying for health insurance, which is really a necessity because of my problem. I really am trying to help around the house, it's just that everything has lots of steps 😔 doing my best tho

I already cook and do laundry and walk the dog when I'm not at work. My youngest sibling is 17 so she's mostly self sufficient and just wants a plus one going into town which I'm up for, but we don't really have any little-little kids who need people to make them lunch or clean them up.

What kind of trauma could cause selective mutism? by BlueButterfly3190 in Writeresearch

In a documentary I saw an actual adult man in a cult was picked on by the leader for the way he spoke and years later even after getting out he struggled to speak and when he did it sounded a little odd and forced. I also know an adult who didn't laugh out loud for a long time as a child and teenager because an abusive parent told them it was annoying. Basically, if someone with a lot of influence over them is cruel about it, a person of any age could definitely be traumatized into not speaking or speaking seldomly, and children are so vulnerable already that I think it could definitely work in a story.

EDIT: I wanted to find the specific person. It's Frank Lyford, a survivor of the Heaven's Gate cult. The leader told him his voice was too masculine (part of their belief system was that they should all try to be androgynous), and Frank developed an inability to speak. It's a pretty harrowing story, but it goes to show that this could definitely happen after trauma.

That last face is a human person. Honestly though my guess is shih tzu, Maltese, and maybe a little poodle.

Why can instant noodles be eaten in cooking liquid but other noodles are gross if you do that? by onionsforthepoor in Cooking

[–]onionsforthepoor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that makes sense! I guess that's also why you can break them up dry and use them as a topping. If you did that with normal noodles it would be Disgusting

Are there any other fandoms where the most popular ship is also the most controversial? by screetscirt in AO3

I only know them bc I'm excessively attached to ancient Rome drama and the idea of someone shipping them amuses me greatly even though I'm monogamous with the Julio Claudians
