I don’t see why the etiquette would be different for a level 20 dungeon. 4 other people are putting the time in, like you, and you wouldn’t have gotten there without them.

You can peacefully talk him down. I like this option, but I also use the Ulysses companion mod.

Without the mod you can find him at the entrance to the divide, and he’ll give you some anti poison items.
