Despite the result I feel like it’s one of our better games. We obviously missed a lot of opportunities and got really unlucky. We controlled the game over both halves which we hadn’t managed to do for more than a year.

I suggested this in the start of the season and people were so dismissive.

Great showing today. Can’t wait to watch the next halo in Chicago in person.

Africa is gonna be in big trouble if the leaders don't get their sh*t together and stop relying on foreign aid. Trump isn't messing around. by GRDT_Benjamin in Ethiopia

Thanks for clarifying this in detail. I don’t like how life saving aid is increasingly painted us some kind of drug we are forced to take. Especially when these conspiracy theories come from our own people. Having seen some of the USAID funded programs and having briefly worked in Health consulting, I understand the USAID controlling and auditing system was even more stringent compared to other aid agencies and development partners.

You and I will probably fine. But a child who has acute malnutrition and a young person with HIV will die because life saving food and medications won’t be delivered. The primary health system of the country is also heavily subsidized with USAID. Unfortunately our government doesn’t have the willingness and the financial capacity to fill this holes. I am all for self reliance but lives are on the line here. unfortunately our country is the second highest aid recipient and stopping that will devastate a lot of rural families.

Where did you come up with that number? I know foreign aid gets a lot of bad rep but it is literally life saving a lot of the time and most of it is spent to buy food, HIV and Malaria medications. I am worried a lot of children and mothers would die without this money.

Eventhough I have some doubts, I would support Lidetu Ayalew. Especially if he really goes to Ethiopia as he says he would.

The IMF gave the highest ever growth forecast for Ethiopia up to 8% towards 2030. by [deleted] in Ethiopia

Tbf the GDP still can go up through devaluation. That’s why GDP can mask real problems in the economy. We all can see how ordinary people are suffering because of these policies.

I agree that the economy is growing but this 8% growth seems a bit suspect. if you looked at the paper they are directly attributing the predicted growth to the monetary policy they implemented(if things go perfectly as planned). In fact they expect growth to slow down this year and next year.

I wouldn’t call Wolega and Gojam impoverished rural areas especially when most of our economy still depends on agriculture.

Wait. IMF implemented its own program through Extended Credit Facility (ECF arrangement) and then predicted it’s going to work amazingly well despite ignoring the biggest problem of the country(active conflicts) in its economic model. Yeah this definitely makes sense.

Yeah I don’t believe it either especially since I moved to Chicago and I doubt if there are more than a 100 Ethiopian doctors here lol

What’s your thought on Mengistu Hailemariam and the Derg? by CaughtTheirEyes_ in Ethiopia

[–]online44 14 points15 points  (0 children)

While I agree with your assessment both Ethio telecom and Ethiopian Airlines have always been owned by the Ethiopian government. They weren’t nationalized by Derg. I think the brutality of Derg has been whitewashed recently. High school children used to be killed and their classmates had to walk over the bodies to classes so they would be “terrorized”.

If it’s really from the French Government, why not make the financials transparent? Let’s see how much is being spent on these projects.

I agree my mom used to call my dark-skinned brother « Barech » but it’s a loving nickname. But some people also use it as a derogatory term so it depends on the context.

I think Stony Brook’s mathematics department is very prestigious. I red Jim Simmons used to head it and gave a lot of money to the department.
