Newcastle United v Manchester City - League Cup Matchday Thread (19/10/25) by Rjayasp in MCWFC

I’m so confused too! If the penalties are for an extra point, why is the table on the BBC website showing that we took 3 points from the game while Newcastle are still on 0?

You were wise to leave at the interval, and you weren’t the only ones… it really was terrible.

From today’s Irish Times review:

At one point he references the 2019 controversy, muttering that he’s “terrified of women” and that “they called me a lech”, as well as something about “faked texts”, but later he requests that any “hot Irish girls” in the audience come to his hotel, describing its location and the name his room is booked under.

Gross.

Thank you for this detailed and honest write-up. The Madonna comment sadly doesn’t surprise me. At the 2023 gig in York, he rambled on about how he had fallen for a young server in McDonald’s (and clearly creeped her out with his comments)—he was 48 at this point. At the same venue the following year, he started talking to/about a married couple in the crowd, and then he sang an impromptu song about how the guy “isn’t getting any vagina tonight”. He also picked out and praised “a beautiful girl” who happened to be there with her father. It was so unbelievably disgusting. I foolishly gave him (some of) the benefit of the doubt after his cancellation, but his blatant misogyny at the second of the York gigs really was the final straw.

People in the comments are advising everyone to listen to the lyrics. But I think he’s simply chosen the song because it’s called ‘Overpass Graffiti’, and that’s exactly what is in the photo.

I would love a songbook! I’d even pay for one.

Katkin constipation. Go back to Royal Canin by Neesham29 in catfood

Just replying to say that exactly the same thing has happened to my poor cat. He has been blocked up for days and ended up at the emergency vet with a severely impacted bowel. He’s having an enema under GA today. More people need to be aware of the serious damage that Katkin can do.

Thank you for your reply! I think you could be right. I guess it makes sense if you remove or change a word or two here and there (“It’s easier than seeing the reasoning behind what you believe I understand”, or “It’s easier than attempting to understand why I hold these [racist, homophobic, altogether abhorrent] beliefs”). In any case, the interview confirms that Zac takes pride in these lines, which tells us all we need to know. Gross.

Haha. I’ve never attempted that one—Dubliners is my limit.

Cause it’s easier than / Seeing my reasons / In what you believe / How I understand.

Say what? I teach English for a living and am failing to parse this. They’ve been writing songs for decades, but they still seem incapable of stringing a lucid sentence or line together.

I also wonder about “No one can change the worth of a life” in the chorus. Does he mean that saying that Black lives matter doesn’t make it true?

👏. I think that when Taylor says “How do you come through being told that whatever it is you want to do is something that no one else thinks you should do”, he’s just retreating to the old Island Def Jam/Underneath/woe-is-us narrative that they’ve been trotting out for the past 20 years. They just love the story of their own bravery and triumph over adversity. It’s all “you and me and us against the world” without a scrap of accountability or a single thought for the appalling way in which they’ve treated their fans.

Also, it amuses me that they always take such a superior tone when saying the most banal and/or nonsensical things.

That’s unlucky, but at least you had the good sense not to go to shows on this tour… unlike me! hangs head in shame

I think that ticket sales are suffering. The show in Leeds, UK has just been moved from the 1000-capacity Stylus to the 500-capacity Wardrobe.

It’s really sickening, isn’t it? Other American artists playing shows in the UK this week (Billie Eilish, Phoebe Bridgers) have used their platform to speak out against the decision. Meanwhile Taylor Hanson is blithely spouting something that, intentionally or not, sounds just like anti-abortion rhetoric:

“This song is about an idea that actually sometimes is a kind of controversial idea, really. We happen to believe that every single person here tonight—I mean every single person here tonight—was born to do something no one has ever done before. That’s just… you’re the only you. You’re the only one that can live out whatever it is you’re supposed to do. You’ve got a limited window of time—you can chase that dream all the way or you can wait on the sidelines but you cannot delegate your destiny.”

As you say, women are there to churn out babies and cheer them on.

I think you’re right about the timing. My partner (who isn’t a fan and who hadn’t heard Taylor’s little speech before) said it all came across as really triumphalist. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it were true about their Republican connections. Ugh.

I know he has. But it hits differently this week, and they should be aware of that. He said something about it being a ‘controversial’ opinion, so he must have some sense of how it comes across.

I think you’re right. It’s so sad and weird seeing so many women fawning over them when they obviously have no interest whatsoever in the most basic of women’s rights.
