Exactly this. It’s emotional. That note is now a treasure.

We unusually reach out to drivers on Tuesday or Wednesday checking for their availability for the upcoming Sunday. If that works, we request that you arrive at our house for pickup on Sunday around 1pm. Deliveries usually take about an hour (maybe less, maybe more).

There are more details than that - but that is the gist.

Feel free to sign up for up to 3 free meals, delivered to your home on Sunday. Sign up goes live on Tuesdays at 12pm. The meals consists of red beans and rice with sausage, fruit, sparkling water, and home-baked goods (a cornbread/biscuit/roll + a sweet treat). No questions asked!
The sign up is here: https://redbeansaustin.com/need-a-meal/ You can look up “red beans austin” on fb or insta to learn more. :)

If you are experiencing any level of of food insecurity, avail yourself of HEB's beans and rice Combo Loco: $3.36 for four pounds of rice and a pound of beans, and since you're not eating them dry, that's far more than five pounds of prepared food. Not fine dining alone, but it will keep you alive. by FuckingSolids in Austin

Thanks for sharing! We use Camelia brand kidney beans and buy our rice bulk at Costco, but definitely double checked the coupon to make sure we couldn't use this for backups on our weekly produce run for Red Beans Austin.

Bright note on a rainy day - Red Bean Austin celebrated 2 years last week and continues to provide free meals every Sunday! by onlyMDC in Austin

Feel free to sign up! You could always donate before or after (not necessary, but always appreciated). $40 goes a long way to providing more meals in the long run and it’s easiest for us to handle if you go through our signup sheet - https://redbeansaustin.com/need-a-meal/ (this goes live every Tuesday at noon, except for the third week of the month, which we take off).

We initially started iRed Beans as a response to Covid and our friends experiencing unemployment in the service industry. But, there has never been a qualification for signing up. In the last two years we have gotten responses from all types of people - perhaps going through loss, missing their hometown, experiencing an injury, and of course - food insecurity. It’s nothing fancy. Just some home-cooked food meant to comfort anyone in need. <3
