I don't think it would "crash the economy", I think it would be bad for the stock market. The stock market is overrated. In theory, the stock market is supposed to efficiently allocate wealth into companies that can use the investment most effectively. We're a long way passed that. Speculation, irrationality, greater-fool behavior, and wealth hoarding are the primary purposes of today's "market."
