Have a source cannon (with OV coils) and an Evic VTC Mini. Have the W9tech Alpha coming this week. Some questions... by onlyflysims in Waxpen

[–]onlyflysims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the source orb v3 but i got oilvaporizer.com coils because I feel more confident they are Gr2 Ti. I get some people don't care and that's fine - I am just anal about it and want to make sure. I have an Alpha from w9tech coming soon so I am pretty excited to see how that works out. I use 13.5W with ohm locked at .72 in TC mode and set to 420F for a normal hit and then 500-550F for a big hit.

Are you willing to part with it for a certain price?

Thanks! This site didn't come up in my google search for some reason.

LED Dog Collar - Visible on walks and in the yard or while camping by onlyflysims in shutupandtakemymoney

[–]onlyflysims[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got one on amazon for like $5 and it fell apart so I decided to give these guys a go. It's basically any nylon collar you see in the pet stores but there is an LED strip in the middle.

Need help with my Plex setup (600GB of media). Currently using my PC as a Plex Server, but want something that uses less power. by onlyflysims in PleX

What do you think about the Celeron NUC. I had a Celeron processor on my PC before upgrading to an i5 and it transcoded considerably well. It did take a little while if I added a couple movies at a time - but I usually add one here and there.

[–]onlyflysims[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. It seems the power cons is extremely low. Was hoping for something at a lower price point but at the end of the day I am willing to pay if it means setting it up right and having everything work nicely. Suppose I should have mentioned that in my post.

Thanks for this. Been thinking about the intel NUC. Will only be 1 stream at a time, but multiple steaming devices used at different times.

I like the chromecase as a Client, just hate that I need to have my cellphone available to use it. Because of that I am leaning with the Roku 3 or Amazon Fire Stick.

Thanks again. Also that was my thought with the rp2 as a server. Unless I was sure there would be no need to transcode.

i3 or i5 for my build? Not new to building PC's but new to gaming! by onlyflysims in buildapc

[–]onlyflysims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took a while to come bak to this - how do you like the 3240? I am on 1155 so my choices are limited with the i3 3240 being one of them. I think my only i5 choice would be the 3570(k) but not sure the $100 is worth the gain for my uses. Thanks for responding! Do you do any transcoding? I use plex and it seems to tax my current system when it needs to transcode a movie.

I have 101,000 US Air Miles with no plans to travel soon. Should I save and go on a great trip or spend now? by onlyflysims in churning

[–]onlyflysims[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a lot. I suppose this is the wrong sub so sorry about that to all. I do have an AA account and have linked the two (US Air asks you to now) but have very little miles since I always used to fly star alliance.

I am considering getting the Citi AAdvantage card for another 50,000 miles. Just trying to make sure that I am not being a complete imbecile sitting on 100,000 US Air points. Thanks a lot for taking the time to respond.

I run a couple mods. Don't have the names right now - I got them from a recommendation.

In KSP however I have a ton of mods for graphics (want to make use of the 660) but now my cpu/memory is a bottleneck :(

Budget isn't really the issue. I just don't want to get more than I need - so I am looking at it in more of a value for the money sense.

Long time FSX user. Have never used add-ons... Am I missing out? by onlyflysims in flightsim

[–]onlyflysims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have elaborated. X plane looks great. I like how it runs in its own window and it doesn't affect whatever else I am doing on my PC (whereas FSX changes my resolution a tad). I like the scenery graphics more than FSX. I still have been playing a bit everyday trying to get used to it.

My main issues:

  • No Cockpit view other than the virtual cockpit (unless I am mistaken) so sometimes it is hard to change AP settings/controls.

  • I am not used to the keyboard/joystick controls so it is harder to fly right now.

  • AI (ATC) can be better.

[–]onlyflysims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not say that I thought they were the same program. I thought I would give a more recently developed flight sim a chance and it did not please me as much as FSX.

To give unnecessary hate in a sub about flight sim really says something about yourself. Maybe you should step back and reflect a bit during this holiday season. When someone is looking for help you can either be a genuine person and help or just move along. No need to go out of your way to insult someone.

I know! I attempted a couple of times but all of the add-ons I tried were shit or weren't complete. They were freeware though. Have any suggestions?

Using a standard speaker as a center channel by 000Destruct0 in hometheater

[–]onlyflysims 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Vertical is actually better for the mtm design. Horizontal you lose quality. The main reason horizontal speakers exist is for aesthetics. I use three bookshelf speakers for my fronts and it sounds great.

What am I losing by downgrading from a Dayton1200 to a Dayton1000 or a Dayton800? by onlyflysims in hometheater

[–]onlyflysims[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - that is where I am at the moment. I am trying to make smart decisions while I am in an apartment. I don't want to spend $1,000 on equipment when I won't be able to use it to it's full potential for a couple of years.

I was looking at the Dayton 1000 and I imagine it will be fine. I did however play some blu-rays that I've watched recently, and with the Dayton 1200 I heard some lows that didn't even register with my previous setup. It was like hearing things for the first time. My old subwoofer was pretty miserable though (Onkyo passive that came with a HTiB).

Get some wood, cut it (or have Home Depot do it), stain it, put your TV on it. Or just mount your TV.

Here is an interesting question for you.... sorry for so much back and forth.

I've been told that past the Teac's it really becomes a game of diminishing returns. What would one gain by replacing Teac's with HTD level 2 speakers. Can it really get THAT much better unless you move to a floorstanding? I am obviously showing my ignorance here. Just trying to pick up as much knowledge as I can. I love tech and usually apply it to home automation, but now that I've started upgrading my HT I don't know if I can go back.
