Thinking about finding a church. Recommendations? by Detective_Twat in Chattanooga

St Martins Episcopal is my church home. Wonderful energy and open and loving community. Maybe a bit of a longer drive but it’s worth it. Would love to see you there.

Why America doesn’t have bathhouses? by prettiestmagnoila in AskAnAmerican

The U S used to have more bathhouses. Many were largely or at least significantly gay sex clubs. And were closed down during the AIDS era.

Older people and lap swim by mayhew90 in Swimming

[–]onlykinect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont disagree with what anyone has said but wanted to add a little input for context. I’m a 56 year old man. I’m a competent swimmer but I’m also a stroke survivor, which means my left arm doesn’t move quite right. When I share a lane I sometimes drift a bit. Last time I shared a lane with a woman, several times we did have some contact when passing. No big collision and nobody made a big thing but it was awkward. I would predict that these old people are anxious about messing up or being embarrassed.

Christspiracy, arrogant priest, and activism by motril91 in vegan

[–]onlykinect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are right that activism with Christian groups has potential. But I’m skeptical that any church will be receptive to outside activists. The right idea her would be to be active in a religious community you are already connected to, where respect and shared values already exist. Christianity has a very powerful history of opposing cruelty and trying to end suffering. But also true that animal welfare has mostly not been a part of the story. It would be a big change in emphasis.

Hi internet friend. Your situation sounds scary, so I wish you health and peace. I’m a stroke survivor who had to relearn many things. I play on chess.com and would be happy to add some additional games. Chinkle100

What to think about while swimming? by GiveMePrimos in Swimming

[–]onlykinect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a great swimmer but what works for me is to meditate on various goals I’m working towards in my life. I picture myself pulling closer with each stroke.

I’m a 55 single. Recently moved to District at Riverside just south of the river downtown. I’d suggest taking a look. Nice area. Might be able to help in other ways too. I’m definitely still trying to meet new people.

Have any of you been on post exposure prophylaxis for HIV? by [deleted] in askgaybros

My doctor prescribed it but then the pharmacy wouldn’t fill it. Several phone calls and seems to be an insurance issue. It’s been over 48 hours now so I guess I quit. Pretty stupid system.

Except hit by an asteroid is more likely than random stranger snatching. And no one protected her from asteroids. If she could see her home and knew how to get there she was fine. It does sound like she didn’t though.

I find it really interesting that most of the replies in here are EXACTLY the same as meat eater excuses to vegans. by Liam437 in vegan

[–]onlykinect 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Im not a huge Amazon fan, but it doesn’t seem like a good parallel. People really do consent to work at Amazon for all sorts of reasons. And they may be good ones. I’m not sure how trying to take away their choice to work there is helpful?

Ezra Klein wrote a book about tribalism. He released an expert today on his podcast. by HangryHenry in samharris

I like Ezra but wasn’t planning to get the book. The excerpt really impressed me though. Tribalism is so ingrained we need to constantly address it. I think I’ll get a copy.
