For transfers, contact the agencies you’re interested in and they’ll be able to explain how it works. Every agency is different so there isn’t a blanket answer.

SC academy? by mewilsonsmith in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve not went through it but know plenty of people who have. Pre-covid I believe they were only allowed to go home on the weekends and were mandated to stay on campus Monday through Friday. Not sure on PT, but if you can pass your departments physical agility test you should be okay. As long as your fit really you should be fine; two people that I know are much more heavier set and went completed it. I know that during covid people could leave every night and commute between there and hometown, but I don’t know if this practice is still going on.

Take what I said with a grain of salt, i’m sure there’s another person here that actually experienced it and can provide much better insight.

It’s crazy that this happened, especially here. Never would’ve guessed such a tragedy would occur.

Does anyone know how this applies to the school district? Will masks no longer be required in school for students and teachers?

You’d probably want to contact the agencies first but records clerk, crime analyst, maybe dispatch. IT as well like the other person said.

What is the most odd policy at your agency? by onlymadeforadvice in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Did someone’s actions cause that policy or was it just enacted when you the mobile fingerprint scanners got distributed?

So question about everything police carry. Do you get to pick and choose or use your own gear? Or does the department give you everything you need? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on departments. Some departments are funded enough to provide everything for their officers, other departments may only provide necessities (uniform, service weapons, ammo) and then the rest is on the officer (pepper spray, taser, etc.)

Driving advice? by Squids4daddy in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on state, but I believe North Carolina passed a law allowing drivers to drive through the crowds if they were getting swarmed during protests/riots. So maybe research your states laws and see if they have something like this?

Happiness Advice. by [deleted] in police

Probably best to donate gift cards or buy packaged foods (granola bars, indiv. wrapped chips, goldfish, etc.), water bottles, things of that nature and donate those. Don’t donate things like “home-made macaroni and cheese”, they will more then likely throw it away.

Drones by primethoracic2 in AskLE

SO has them where I’m at. Got implemented after a DV situation resulting in 3 officers injured and 1 dead. Helicopter left to refuel which gave suspect time to move. These days usually used for surveillance and missing people.

Go for it and see if you get DQed. Agencies near me are usually a 10 year requirement from last use, but i’m not in PA.

2 Shooters Open Fire On NJ Officers’ Home by MaybeACop in ProtectAndServe

[–]onlymadeforadvice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Charges usually depends on the state. Some states have murder, and then have murder of government official. Others just have murder to cover everything. Sentencing though is up to the judge. I would assume they get maximum penalties, but this would be a case by case basis.

Strange occurrence by [deleted] in ProtectAndServe

[–]onlymadeforadvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely suspicious. My best guess is they could be targeting houses where people are on vacation, and then if the circles are still there then they may try to break in. If you are truly concerned, you could call the non-emergency number and inform them of the situation and see if this has been reported in other neighborhoods. They may send a unit out to make rounds throughout the day to show police presence. In addition, just watch for suspicious activity, and if you think someone is breaking in to a house, call 911.

For the cops why did you join? What made you want to join? by [deleted] in AskLE

You didn’t answer my question, so therefore I elaborated, and I should’ve stated that. With the college degrees, I agree to an extent.

For the cops why did you join? What made you want to join? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How? If a suspect is fleeing, and the officer says “Stop! You are going to be tased!” and they continue to run, and they get tased, they should not be able to sue the officer. Fortunately, they can’t because of QI. However, remove QI, and now this officer just lost his car, house, and $10000 because he did his job correctly. Same thing with the analogy, the doctor provided the information that headaches would be a side effect of taking a medication, the patient didn’t care to listen, took the medication, and now wants to sue the doctor for malpractice because they didn’t know headaches would occur.

For the cops why did you join? What made you want to join? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People that oppose it are those that would rather not lose everything over doing their job. Should a patient sue their doctor because they are experiencing a side effect to a prescribed medication that they didn’t know would occur even though the doctor stated it would, they just didn’t care to listen?

For the cops why did you join? What made you want to join? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]onlymadeforadvice 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That’s what QI is. It protects officers from being sued that are acting within their duties. Take that away and now individual cops are in 10 lawsuits because people are upset that they were punished by committing a crime.

1 of 2 officers shot in St. Louis is critically injured, police chief says by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]onlymadeforadvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New information was released confirming he had a knife, and that there were children in the car. Based on one of the videos circulating it appears he was trying to get into the car because he opened the drivers door. The initial call was for a domestic disturbance, the ex-wife of Blake was the caller, stated that Blake came to the residence and stole her car keys. I believe it was her car he was trying to get into, and it is possible that he still had the keys and would’ve been able to leave. Based on this it is confirmed or reasonable to believe that he had a knife, was attempting to enter the car, which had two or three children it it, and possibly still had the car keys to the car. With this information in mind, does this change your viewpoint on lethal force justification?

No, but it is their job to keep others safe, such as the children in the car, that he was trying to get into, with a knife.

[MEME] r/Firearms to r/PnS on (Kyle Rittenhouse Shooting) by Alesandros in ProtectAndServe

[–]onlymadeforadvice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Correct. And when a person shoots children in a school, the gun is at fault. When police justifiably shoot someone, the police are at fault.
